    Hi again,

As stated previously there wouldn't be quality issues with a 5 Door, as explained they are built to a vw standard.

I simply prefer the look of the 3 Door, personal preference really, in saying that the 5 Door is a nice looking car too, just more practical. They both have pros and cons for me personally but I'd be happy with either.

The dealers are having an easier time getting what I want spec wise in a 5 Door so I am leaning more towards that at the moment. I will make a decision in the next few days.

Either way it will be a great car to own, I'm looking forward to being behind the wheel for longer than 10mins!

I am in Sydney storm, so no group buy haha..

        Hi All,
Thank you for your replies. I guess for me, it is just a preceived quality of German made rather than SA made. From all feedbacks from this thread, maybe it doesn't matter. A VW is a VW. Unless proven otherwise.

I maybe have to consider if I need a 5 dr or a 3 dr. I do not have a high budget, therefore maybe a 3 dr will suit my budget.

Does any one know if United Grey is a color for the GTIs? I have seen some around but very very seldom!

          Storm,

United Grey is avaiable for GTI, I was offered a 3 door with sunroof, leather & RNS510.

It depends on what options you are after as to what you can get. I know there are some black 3 doors available with differing options. A dealer will be able to tell you what is available or coming in. Shop around for the best price when you know what is available.

As it stands I am probably going to buy either today or tomorrow a MY09 5 door in Black, DSG with leather and sunroof, i'm in final negotiations now.

              Hi all,
United Grey is quite a unique color. Does go well with the red trimmings and different than the standard colors.

One dealer claims that VW is not manufacturing the MK5 GTIs anymore. Not too sure how true is the claim. Anyone able to advice on that?

I am happy to wait... but if production has actually stopped.. then have to rethink my options.

(delayed reply)......The VIN # of your car will tell you this. (mine is a MY08/09 model and I was stoked when I checked the VIN #).

there was a thread about it somewhere else, cant remember where. south african and german built VW's have different VIN numbers apparently.

my 5dr GTI has WVWZZZ1KZ8U which indicates its an 08 model, which it is and the W at the front apparently means Wolfsburg, which interests me as I thought it would have been coming from seth africccah.

                  thoughts?

not that it matters. mine seems to be screwed together quite well. a bit unlike its owner.

The 10th digiit is the assembly plant, your's is U and as expected is made in Uitenhage in South Africa.

1st digit is Region (Europe), 2nd is V (VW), 3rd is Type (Passanger Car), 4th,5th and 6th are fillers, 7 and 8 are the model (MK5 Golf), 9 is the year.

I heard the same thing from a dealer... Basically, that they are moving production from RSA to Europe, and therefore no orders being taken until Jan... And then it's MKVI from there... Or so I'm told.

I wouldn't be suprised if they do get some 5dr's from Europe. Thats where the americans get theirs from?

                            GTI Update

Made an order for a 3dr GTI MY09 - Stock with DSG. Should arrive in Melbourne coming week, just in time for the long weekend.

What should I be checking out for during collection? So far from what I read in forums - Paintwork, electrics, VW bottle opener, mats should be a standard, ensure spacer is removed (not even sure how a spacer looks like). Any others that I have missed out?

                            Cheers

My car has 9U. But I bought it 4 weeks ago. How can I have a 2009 model car if it was built on 2008? The dealer order specifies MY08.

Because the Model Years are updated towards the end of each year.

MY09's are built around July-August 2008 onwards and delivered around September/October 2008 onwards.

Subaru and others do this the same way.
