  • Difference between MY08 & MY09 Golf GTI

    Hi all,
This is my first post.. so be patient with me.

I am currently in considering the MK5 GTI. I have been told that there are stocks available for the Golf GTI - both MY08 and MY09. Does anyone know the difference between the MY08 and MY09?

I have googled and search through the forum but found nothing. Any feedback would be great.

Lastly, any good dealers to recommend in Melbourne?

    Thanks,
    Storm

      It all depends...

      Hi,
I would think that they are fairly similar in price. Depending on what stock and color the dealer has and if you are prepared to deal on that day. That's what I have been getting so far.

Let me know if I am wrong to assume.

I got my car about 10 days ago, and it is apparently badged as a 2009 model, which wasn't discussed when we were talking numbers and deals, it's just what we ended up with.

          Hi, first post here.

I am in a similar position to you in that I am in the process of purchasing a GTI at the moment (having difficulty finding exact spec i'm after).

I am not sure what the differences are between the MY08 & 09 models. Is there any mechanical or specification differences that anyone knows of?

I like the idea of having a MY09 build but it will still have 08 compliance in any case.

Good luck with your purchase storm.

Angry Shot posted the all detailed MY07 to MY08 change list.

Angry, any chance of the MY08 MY09 change list?

              TIA.

                Hi all,
                Thank you for your responses.

TDi08, any chance on a definition of a good deal? Anything under the RRP driveaway? Well, I am hoping to get a good deal since the MK5 is nearing its "end".

KurtGTI - Hey, good luck with your purchase too! Hopefully you get the specs that you are after.

Hibba - May sound like a silly question... but how do you know a car is badged 2009? Can the dealer check it via their computer system?

We need to get Angry Shot in this thread... maybe we will be able to get some answers.

My assumption would be the newer model the better. More features? Probably slight improvements based on the older MY08 model. Just need the specifics to assess if it is worth looking out for MY09 car.

                  Storm,

What I found is that the cars available have a 9 in the VIN number which indicates an 09 model obviously. So, if you can see the VIN you will see what year build it is.

                  EG is from carsales WVWZZZ1KZ9U

I have found dealers are more likely to negotiate more on 5 door than 3 door (which is what I am after but can't find one in the spec I want) so as long as you are flexible with options etc I think you will get a good price. There are still quite a few out there. Shop around is the main thing.

                    Hi KurtGTI,
Thanks for the tip. Not too keen about the SA made cars. By the way are you from Melbourne? I heard that the 3drs are better quality.

Have you heard about the rattles issue with the GTI? Is it more apparent with the 5drs?

Well, maybe we should do a group buy of GTI... of two? Anyone in Melbourne looking for a GTI as well?

They are the same, most of the parts come from the same place and the cars are mostly assembled by machines.

Pick what car you want first, a 3 door or a 5 door, don't base your decision on where they are made.

They are the same, if you lower the car and modify it then you expect rattles, the dealer will sort out any other ones that you get.

I remember reading this in one of the forums. They were very minor with one nice to have. The nice to have was if you have the RNS510 and reverse parking sensors it shows a graphic on the RNS510 screen. You can see it on the Tiguan brochure on P19.

The other changes were things like the glovebox handle is now grey instead of silver, the switches for the alarm interior monitor and exterior mirrors are different. I can't remember the other stuff.

My dealer just told me... I imagine they have some magical way of finding out.

I have had a SA made 5 door for 9 months and no rattles or unexpected noises.
They all have to be made to a standard and VW does not allows that standard to drop because of the country it is assembled in (toyota are the same).
The drive train is made in Europe.
I work with a guy who has a 3 door (German assembled) and he has had more rattles and issues than I have had.
