Jetta Front Fog Lights

Hi Folks,

I am purchasing a 2.0 TDi 6 Sp Jetta. I was interested in getting one with front fog lamps. The dealer has said that their are none with Front Fog Lamps in the colour I am after and that they can not be retro fitted.

Do any of you folks have them ? Are they worth having ? Do they work in conjunction with the main front lights or instead of.? Can the be retro fitted even if aftermarket ?

On my GT Sport, they only work in conjunction with the main headlights.

They look good, but are fairly useless to me - lighting up the patch on the road between the bumper and where your main beams hit the road.
It also doesn't get foggy here in metro Perth, so I can't comment on any other use.

I don't think the R32 guys are too fussed about not having them.
But they do look good...

I'm sure you can retrofit them - here they are on oempl.us

Although you'd need to make sure you had the right light switch (european switch i believe it is) in the car... the one where you dial the switch all the way to the right, then pull it towards you.

got the fog lights...... kind of useless with the xenon lights..... so I have never used them, more of a look thing then anything else........

Even on our other cars which have fog lights, they have never seen any use.... but make the car look a bit better...

I have never really used them, i leave my lights on auto unless light rain about, then i might go to fogs.

they look better though than the big space where they should sit if you dont have them.

I would not bother.
I had them on my previous Holden Astra,and do not have them on my Jetta,but the Jettas headlights are great,and I have never missed not having the fog lights.
Which colour are you thinking of getting your new Jetta in.
And as far as the car goes,you will LOVE it,they are fantastic.

I'm looking forward to getting the car I've been without a car for over a month now (P plater decided to park in my boot of previous car at 50km/h).

Yes you can retrofit the foglights. Before you start though, it might help for you to take a look at the following DIY

It is for a LHD vehicle but it should get you started with part numbers and basic procedure. I will be running the loom in mine probably this week and trying to enable these in VAGCOM soon after (thanks again for the offer to use yours Tim!!).

When are you taking delivery,and what was your previous car that was driven into.
I love it in Platinum Grey.
I was in America last year,and thought that was the most popular colour,and wondered why it was not available here.

They are rather pointless. Unless its foggy they are illegal to use anyway. I personally don't even think they look that good, especially when on, blinding bloody things.

Fog lights by their very nature of the beam pattern are NOT blinding things.
D**ks who adj them up or replace with driving lights are the issue. Proper fogs work very well as DRL's and should cause no issues other than to make your vehicle visible.

And what occurs if the road is wet and you have a light down low reflecting back off the surface?

Surely you would find it annoying to have cars coming towards you with 4 headlights on because that is effectively what they are doing by having fog lights and headlights on.

Let's not forget that most fog lights on the market are not proper fog lights.

I find about 25% of fog lights seem to dazzle excessively, and upmarket falcadores are by far the worst culprits. Properly designed and aimed fog lights cause no dazzle whatsoever, as they have a very sharp, low cut-off so they throw light under the fog.

But I reserve a much more intense hatred for people with their rear fog lights switched on when it isn't foggy - these dazzle you for much longer than the fronts, and your pupils can't contract for red light.

I don't know why cops don't have regular blitzes on people using fogs when the weather is perfectly clear - they would rake in mega dollars with very little effort, and from the people who deserve it the most

Hyundai's are the worse here, and the drivers are thick as two bricks so no matter how many times you flash them they just don't get it. Surely they can see the car illuminated in "red" behind them or the light on the dash

Then again if they had brains they wouldn't be in Hyundai. Perhaps we should treat it as a warning light for idiots.

Far far easier to roll out a speed camera or 50.

Maybe if someone invents a speed camera that will pick up fog lights then they will do something about it.

Really pointless having all these laws if they only ever target speeding. If the law exists then enforce it, if you can't or won't enforce it get rid of it.

Hah that's very true actually. I agree that all those bloody Falcons and stuff have bad foglights. I'm young, so I still think they look cool (it's just part of my nature), but damn they can get annoying.
