  • Golf GT brakes - Same as GTI????

Does anyone know if the Golf GT sport brakes are the same as the GTI or smaller or different in any way.

I am looking at the upgrade kits from overseas for two piece rotors etc for GTI and hoping to fit them to my GT sport.

They're the same except they don't have the red powder coating and as such don't operate as quickly.

If you want GTI brakes on your GT, I'd suggest 1 x can of heatproof caliper paint (red).

If you want an actual upgrade, R32 discs and calipers + longer front brake lines would work much better. But they're blue...

Geez Barney, you'd forever be getting rear ended if you went for even better brakes. I've found I can terrify even the sportiest of tailgaters!

You mean like this...... Already done.

I think it would be fun to fit the R32 brakes to go even crazier on the stopping front. The GT brakes are super sharp though... when people drive the car for first time we are always bunny hopping at the first set of lights.

There you go - GTI brakes - you're already there!

In case you're wondering about the R32 brakes on a 17" rim, there's a guy called DanGSR who's done it. Here's a pic of them:

I have seen them done on huffs.

I wonder if it is a straight fit or if you need some spacers, which would then make it completely illegal in Australia.

                They are HUGE!

I would definitely say that spacers would need to be used to get those bad boys onto a GT Sport.

Well the disc is only 5mm thicker, so theoretically that'd only be 2.5mm on the wheel side of the disc... you might get away with it - the pic shows the caliper is VERY close to the rim.

                      squeally brakes

Do you find your brakes squeal under normal operation? I've had lots of cars (mainly Japanese - Camry v6, Mazda 626 v6, etc) and never had squeally brakes... until the TSI.

mine did for a little while, then it went away.
GT/GTI brakes are f'in awesome, can't imagine how much better the R32 ones are.

I was considering upgrading to two piece rotors when the time comes and some stainless lines and upgraded pads...

My brakes dont squeel one tiny bit at all.... but I give my car a good mexican tune up whenever I can.

Drive to 150 Hit brakes until car comes to zero.... repeat.... squeal should be well and truly gone.

I broke from 250 to zero in my dads jag once and by the time the car came to a rest there was white smoke pouring out of the wheel arches and I had the handbrake up to stop the car rolling forwards hehahaha. He commented that his brake squeal was gone the next day.
