It's not turned on, it's turned on to 32 degrees or it's broken.

Perhaps a bit more info needs to be posted.

Are you sure the dial wasn't set to the window rather than interior? Have a look at your manual again, just to double check if you by chance have accidentally missed something.

the dial was set to the interior. had it on "auto" for ages and the fans blasting away and still no cold air.

Is it on 'auto' AND 'AC'? It could be 30 degrees outside and there's no way you will get the interior temp to 18 degrees with JUST 'auto'.

guys, she knows how to use the aircon answers like that arent helpful at all

the aircon compressors on the mk5's are a known issue. its most likely died. time to book it in with a workshop unfortunately

Nothing if the car is under warranty, although I would certainly not like to be in the position where you would have to pay.

You'd be looking at what, 4-5k considering thats the current trend in VW servicing?

Mischa is right, you can feel cold air pretty quickly wherever it's set to come out of in the golf. Compressors dying is a common problem and it's a trip to the dealer as the Mish has advised.

Which type of Golf you have....
IF you have TDI there is Econ or something button that sort of stops aircon working even if you put it down to 18C....IT is right below your recycle button and read demister button
