I have a Mk V GTI,DSG, that on starting, particularly when cold, exhibits a strange sensation of seeming to noticeably rock forward slightly. Is this just a normal characteristic of the GTI, or have I got a problem? The car is yet to hit 1 year old and has always run well, apart from this. Does anyone have any experience with this possible problem?

Rocking on Start
Hi Johng
Is it manual or DSG? If manual sounds like a clutch problem. If DSG - ?
I;ve got a MY07 GTi DSG and defintiely did not have any problems like this. Best way is to race back to the dealer and get them to look at it. Specially if the car is still new. If its a DSG I;d suggest the gearbox controller is a little confused. Cheers

If it's was I'm thinking, when you jump in the car with the handbrake off & start it first thing in the morning, the car will move forward slightly?
I've experienced this in a couple of DSG's incl. GTI's, but don't tend to notice it after a couple, as no ones ever complained about it. Probably cause the handbrake is on I suppose
Try it with the handbrake on next time & see what happen's.
I know with some auto's/cvt's when cold they will tend to jump forward onto the parking paw of the tran's if the handbrake is not on.
