Announcement

Collapse

Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • FSI Coolant Change

    Hi,

My 2.0 FSI is just about due for a coolant change, was comparing doing a full flush vs. just draining it from the lower radiator hose. What do people on here recommend? The coolant was changed 2 years ago.

    Thanks,
    Michael

There's no timing for a coolant change. Thats a great way to burn through money unnecessarily.

If we're talking about a 15 year old car, I'd be doing a full flush due to the amount of residue that builds over time from calcium in the water, to other residues from hoses and minute dirt and alloy particles. Nothing worse than being stuck on the roadside with an overheating vehicle. Play safe for the comparitively small cost.

When is the timing and water pump due ? Do it all at once.

Thanks for the replies. It was last flushed when the timing belt and water pump were done (2 years ago)
