Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Recommendations for falling ceiling cloth and blocked rear sunroof drains

    Hi all,

As you can see, my car's roof cloth has also started to drag and fall and according to VW they believe it is due to water entry into the rear. Reported to have found water entry into the vehicle caused by blocked rear sunroof drains. Supply and fit replacement head lining and 2 rear sunroof drains quoted at $2.2K from VW.

I know this is a common theme with the sunroofs for MK5s reading previous posts.

Just wondering if anyone else had similar experiences, and how/where you got it fixed and for how much? Happy for any recommendations in the Melbourne region!

    Thanks!

Sunroof drains probably just need to be cleared out. Locate the outlets, squeeze them to open and get any crap out. Use whipper snipper cord and push it from the top down the drain line to clear out any gunk. Flush with water to check it all drains away.

Get the headliner done at a vehicle upholstery place, around $400.
The headliner failed on my Jetta many years ago, no sunroof, just deteriorated due to heat and humidity, same on my previous Golf.

      Hello
I’ve been meaning to post about our recent repair on our Mk5 Golf with failed roof lining.

He is professional & offers great rates & service.
He prices according to your requirements.

My son & I removed our lining & pillar covers & reinstalled them (although just have the front A-Pillars to put back) so this reduced the price accordingly.

I would definitely recommend his services.

      Hope this helps
