Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • 2005 Comfortline Footwell Lights

My 05 Golf has footwell lights that blink as I turn the ignition. Annoys the hell out of me. I did some research and it seems that these could be a cheap after market add on.

Did the Comfortline feature footwell lights?

If no, I’ll rip them put.

Check the bulbs, i'd say you have some LEDs in there, the originals are just halogen festoon bulbs, not sure of the exact size and wattage.

Yes they did come with them, if they're flickering on startup they're probably LED replacements and the flickering is normal.

Good news. Thanks people. I’ll get under the dash and see if I can’t replace the LEDs easily.I guessed the LEDS might flicker because footwell lights, like on my old BMW, faded to black automatically - was hoping the flickering was due to the LEDs struggling with the lowering voltage... I’ll report the outcome when I get to it.

Very easy to replace the footwell lights, you can just pop the housing out with a trim tool. I tried LEDs once down there - way too bright for me.

For future reference, the standard footwell globes are type W5W 12v 5w globes.
