Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Blown ECU/ECM where to go ?

I have a blown Ecu on my 2010 jetta. I pulled lot of wiring out checking it all for shorts before I decided to open up the ECU casing. Inside in the corner was an obvious blown diode or something. The diode was loose and floating about after I wiped the burn off it.
Mould or mildew was on the inside of the casing pointing to moisture ingress.
    Can it be repaired ?
I can see others aroind tge world for sale last two letters in the part number different would they work?
Not quoted VW replacement yet but expect it to be scary seeing they have to recode as such too.
It is due two recalls one being software I think so maybe it should go in anyway.
I am tempted to use a company in Czechoslovakia who if you send the key, old ecu and some details can give a plug and play for under 500 bucks.
Rather use someone in oz if possible of course.
    Any ideas ?

Grab one out of a wreck here, and have a VW dealership swap it over and code the immobiliser to it.

Quickest and easiest way to do it.

If you ring a specialist European dismantler, they should be able to match it up.
