  • A couple of quick questions regarding Wheels and Suspension

    Hi guys,
I have a quick look through the wheels and suspension area, but couldnt find what I was after.

    A couple of quick questions:

What stud pattern do MK V Golf GTI's have?

What is the ideal offset for wheels?

Whats the widest you can go with 19" wheels with say a 40 to 50mm Drop?

What are the prefered premium quality springs in the VW world?

I know I am going to get a varried range of answers, but im curious to hear your words of wisdom as I know nothing about VW's or German cars in general.

    Your input would be appreciated.

    Thanks Craig

      Mk5 Stud pattern is 5x112

KW is another good suspension brand that has quality stuff
you could go as wide as 9 or 10 depending on the offset for the wheels i believe.

I personally wouldn't go that wide with a drop of that much, as with the Koni coilover set I get a bit of rubbing in the front with my 8.5 in BBS's with a 35m/m drop. They are 18in in diameter.
Cheers, and a HUGE welcome to the forum.

yeah you're probably right. you'd be better off with adjustable coilovers to make the ride stiffer to reduce rubbing with seriously wide wheels and a 50mil drop.

            Cheers guys,

Are wheels hard to find for VW's in Australia with regards to PCD and offsets?

depends how picky you are and what your budget is.

40mm lower would make a GTI completely undriveable.

I nail the front skirt at least once a week in mine while entering and leaving carparks (i vist alot of carparks, not all of them are very good).

Alas I'm not really used to attacking things at an angle unless they're massive objects (other car is a 4wd and last few cars while lowered havent has as much front overhang as the gti)

it'd be more fitting and you can easily fit a ful sik bru cannon on them.

My budget on wheels is typically between 2500 to 3 grand for 19s, I am planning on going for a mesh look like on a white car, i had a liberty perviously which looked unreal:

I want to go for something like that except obviously on a golf.

As long as its not completely sitting on the ground im not overly worried about low cars, my past 3 cars have been reasonably low.

I cant say id go quiet that low with a car again, but if driven properly a 60mm drop is livable.

3g's gives you a bit of room to play. if i were you id import some BBS LM's in from ebay in the states. they're a nice classic classy mesh design and just about the lightest, best quality wheels you can buy. just make sure they're around ET50 and either 5x112 or 5x114.3. yes you can fit 5x114.3 wheels onto a mkv, you just need wobble bolts (click here for explanation)
