The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. • 2007 Jetta.. I'm new and I'd like some help! 2 quick questions

I just purchased a 2007 Automatic TFSI Jetta yesterday for my son, from an wholesaler. Cost was great @ $3800 with low KM 126000. When I checked the log books, the timing chain was replaced which was good news.

I am taking it to my mechanic this week to give it a once over, hopefully it will check out fine.

    QUESTION 1
Seems the drivers door lock has some trouble as it spins one direction but not the other. But it does not lock or unlock the doors. The FOB is not able to lock or unlock the doors. Problem is that it stays unlocked. After having a quick google, perhaps the mechanism needs to be replaced or repaired. Any tips?

    QUESTION 2
Should the locks be checked during the NSW Pinkslip process... ie.. should I get the wholesaler to repair or do it myself?

Thanks in advance, and looking forward to a positive outcome.

Cant say what the pinkslip requires. Probably just need to be able to enter and exit the vehicle through that door. Buy yourself a working lock. Dont mess about trying to fix one.

Do make sure you get the correct part!! one from a LHD vehicle wont work as a master lock.

Locks are about $350 from memory, for a decent one anyway.
You should use a VW specialist mechanic, they will have replaced many of these door locks and know how to test and replace quickly.
If the mechanic starts by taking the inside part of the door off to get to the lock, then they don't know what they are doing. The outer skin has to come off for access.

A proper VW mechanic will also know all the little things to check on these models and have the correct diagnostics tools to scan the car and get a full list of faults. A generalist mechanic is not going to be able to diagnose the issues quickly and will likely cost more due to trial and error.

That car is going to be DSG turbo, not known as Automatic around here
      Good luck with the car.

Thanks for the DSG Turbo Tip... I thought it was a simple barrel mechanism issue? I'm not too impressed after 1 day, I may have to spend $350 to get the lock fixed. Could be worth the $30 to try the barrel fix kit?

Thanks... Let's see what the wholesaler says (fingers crossed)... any ideas where to pick up a cheap working lock? Wreckers? Ebay (RHD Vehicle).. other?
