  • Dodgy New Dealer Tactic?

    Soooooo...

I bought my Jetta 3 months ago, and still no correspondence at all from VWaust. No "welcome pack", no VW Asssit Card, no feedback form.

A little strange I thought, so I call the assist line to confirm we were registered:

    Rego #: Check
    Name: Check
    Phone Number: Check
Postal Address: C/O "street address of the dealer"

Note, not the dealer's postal address, and certainly not mine. Just an inoffensive street address.

At pickup, the dealer did mention that "you are just registered automatically", no mention of a roadside card or anything.

So is this a new way of ensuring the dealer doesn't get any bad feedback or am I just being paranoid?

in similar boat... didn't even get told about the welcome pack by the dealership. have had the jetta since late feb. got a call about a month ago from VWA saying welcome to VW and i will get a welcome pack in the mail in about 6-8 weeks.
dealer kept telling me about the survey "blah blah blah" etc... then 2 days after i got the car he rings me to tell me about the survey - again. said he wanted to make sure if i had any problems he would get them fixed before i filled in the survey. lol.

I'm still waiting for my pack 9 months after buying the car. I have called the dealer 3 times asking about the pack, and still nothing...My survey isn't going to be kind to the dealer I got my car off.

Two VWs in the last 2 1/2 years and no welcome pack for either. The Polo came with he VW Assist card in the manual folder, but nothing for the Golf.

Very poor compared with Maxda and Honda, both of whom just about make a nuisance of themselves in the first 3 mths of ownership

Was it a demo or a new vehicle? If a demo, naturally the address will be the dealer's, but there's no excuses for ppl in the dealership not doing their job properly. Either the salesperson hasn't bothered to update your details, or the administration chicks are slack, or something... I've worked in plenty of dealerships and seen some of the laziest and "don't give a ****e about anything" girls in administration who don't do their jobs properly.

Brand new - in fact built to order with a 4 month wait.

We got an update from the dealer. Apparently this has 'happened a few times'.

                Its all sorted.....

Only 9 months? I'd forgotten about the survey and welcome pack until reading this thread so decided to give VWA a call. Unfortunately, I will have to call customer service on Monday to find out what happened to these things. Oh, I've had the Jetta since March LAST YEAR!

Wonder if the stealer might have filled out the survey for me?

I got a neat little wanker card (well lets face it thats all it is haha) with my name, car type, vin number and VW assist number in the mail a few days ago along with a letter talking about it and a VW assist brochure.

                    No survey.

                    What's in the welcome pack?

My dealer is hardly dodgey either - infact I'll go back there if I want to buy another one in a year or two's time. If I don't decide to sell my patrol and buy a wrangler like i originally intended (yes yes i know...was looking at jeeps and bought a VW...i seem to have a thing for notoriously unreliable cars )

I got my roadside assist card a month ago, but no pack. Picked my car up in May. Unless it has a chilled 6 pack in there, not fussed about receiving it either.

I rang up Vw today after seeing the number off here...The issue is all sorted now, and I have the welcome pack on the way...What is it with VW having great cars, but really bad customer service...I'm over dealing with dealers and service departments having no idea about the cars they sell and deal with...

I'm inclined to agree with you, great cars but not so great service !! when I took delivery the salesman said he would be in touch in a couple of days to see how everything was going (that was 3 weeks ago and I rang him a week ago to arrange the complimentary 1000 k check up, that's the only time I've spoken to him since) I took it in for the 1000 k's check up on Thursday, as I said I had made all the arrangements with the salesman but unfortunately he was on holidays, needless to say things didn't go as I would have expected. No huge dramas but just a lot of inconvenience as I live about 75 k's away from the dealer, I had a couple of small things to get fixed as well, loose spotlight, a plastic exterior door trim lifting at the edge, and a small mark on an interior panel (which was noted when I took delivery) I dropped the car off at around 10.30am, was told it would be ready by 12.00 noon. So the Mrs and I went for a wander into town 5 minute walk from the dealer. Did a bit of shopping got a call at 12.20pm was told that it was just being washed and would be ready by 1.00pm, don't know why they had to wash it as it was already clean, but I thought fair enough it must be part of the service. Arrived at the service dept. around 1.00pm had to wait about 10mins to get served and out comes the spare parts manager, reads through the job card tells me everything has been done and then asks me for $80 to which I said no, not as it was a complimentary service I won't be paying. That's alright we'll charge it to the sales dept he says. Anyways I grabbed the keys and headed off, I got about 10 - 15 k's back on the home journey when I suddenly remembered that I had forgotten to pick up a bottle of touch up paint that the salesman said he had there ready for me. Went back to pick it up and then I noticed that the exterior door trim which had been fixed hadn't been touched, got some excuse I can't remember exactly, usual bull****, a young guy comes out has a look at the strip ( takes a couple of photos) and says they'll have to arrange for it to go to their panel shop and get fixed (it's only double sided tape f..f..s.. how hard could it be) he tells the parts manager and he says no it's a new car order a new strip, so now I have to wait until that turns up and go back up and leave the car for an hour so they can fit the strip. I think my servicing will definitely be done elsewhere except for warranty work of course. Sorry for the ranting !! Oh and by the way they couldn't even find the bottle of touch up either so I have to wait for the salesman to come off holidays !!

I got my Welcome pack within 2 months of buying my car, I had the dealership call twice to see if I had any dramas and I had VW call once and got 2 surveys, one from VW and one from the dealership.
