  • Clicking noise - MK5 2.0FSI *Not typical*

    Hi,

I know what these engines should sound like and although louder than others due to direct injection there is a non-typical noise.
It is coming from the front drivers side. While warming up on idle there is a distinctive click (sounds like on off). When getting rpms up it isn't there or can't hear it. Once warmed up it seems to be gone.

What could this be ? I tried using mechanics stethoscope to pinpoint but hard to tell.

    Anyone have any suggestions ??

Does it sound like its coming from in the engine? I had an issue with my TDI where the alternator pulley needed replacement. A heap of noise was coming from around the tensioner and once the alternator pulley was replaced - voila! noise was gone.

Thanks for the replies. If it is the timing chain tensioner will it be at a consistent time apart - this seems random time. It is more from the side of the timing belt I think ...but it is click on and off until the engine warms but doesn't seem consistent time between clicks ...
