Hi all,
Well finally my baby arrived at Solitaire Autos in Adelaide. Sadly REVO flash not done as no REVO file for my model (latest file is a 2008 one and REVO had a 2006 one
)
What a car!!!

even got free security alarm
Next stop was a 3000K drive back to Darwin (car carriers wanted $1400K I did it for $500!!)
Some stats first:
- 3 full tanks of diesel to get back - Adelaide to Coober Pedy 895km; Coober Pedy to Ti Tree (with 1/4 tank 'top-up' at Cadney Rd House so 950~ on next full tank) 1200km and then Tennant Creek - Darwin (Refuel at Katherine ~700km with 1/4 tank left).
- Best avg fuel was ~6.7L/100km according to MFD
- Most exp diesel $2.33p/L at Ti Tree in NT (Cost $125 to fill up)
- Not one cop seen between Coober Pedy and Adelaide River in NT (~1900km) despite driving with NO number plates the whole way!!!
- Saw 4 kangaroos only in the whole 3000km saw more sheep surprisingly!
Notes:
- car is a dr4eam to drive. Quiet as inside road noise was comfortable.
- OMG at the Torque!~!~!
- what a grunty lil bugger! Loves some stick
- DSG is a delight (after reading conflicting views about it). Interestingly it can be rough when backing off from hard acceleration (it does 'clunk' a little). However love the sports mode!! The extra revs really open the car up alot more. Traction control hits in too though a bit late on occasions
- Interior is just superb. People who complain about it are just eing picky. Lots of gadgets and stuff but for me I like the harder plastic decor as easier to clean with kidlets etc.
- Bi-Xenons are just amazing esp in the outback driving. Lights up the road like a christmas tree. I was picking up 'cats eyes' about 2km or more in front of me!
- dual zone air cond works great
- Love the user convenience options inc. windows down via remote; home lights; door lock over 15km/h, rain sensing wipers, spotties; fog lights at rear; dash colours blue/red;the 3 flash indicators; steering wheel paddles (great for playing
)
Annoyances
- RNS whilst having a great screen, options and user friendly has 2 real piss me off problems IMO
1. It does not calculate your arrival time on your current speed but on a pre-set "fast" "medium" or "slow" speed. Whoever thought of that function needs a bullet IMO. It needs to be updated and upgraded urgently.
2. Maps are old. FFS it doesn't even have the Alice - Darwin railway line which has been in since 2001;
3. It does not display your current speed as calculated from triangulation with the satellites. This is another MUST HAVE and needs to urgently be considered in the next upgrade.
4. Ego Talk Bluetooth doesn't work. Dealer prepared me for this and said that VW know about problem and have now got an all-in-one integrated unit RNS that they will provide free of charge and install when it arrives in the near future.
HELP SOUGHT
The DVD player has an error code that has VW stumped - whenever I try to play any legitimate DVD's I get a "wrong region code" error. Does anyone know anything about this? Solitaire have contacted Germany and are awaiting an answer but it was F%%%%^%^% frustrating driving 3K km's with 2 kids and NO dvd!!!
INTERESTING TIDBITS FROM MANUAL
- The VW service manual with car says only 1000K needed for "running in" and after that no limitations. Also no mention of cruise control exceptions or conditions (will post a scan for anyone who is interested)
Have some piccies I hope to post soon (prob tomorrow night).
All in all a wonderful car and the best I have ever owned easily.
