  • eBay radios draining car battery

Has anyone had those eBay 2DIN radios be constantly connected to power.

    Plug and play.

And draining the car battery ?

I’ve emailed the supplier of the eBay radio and awaiting a reply.

Any ideas ? Perhaps fuse and switch for the radio unit.

Sounds like you may need to update your can bus gateway, what year is your car?

These radios are meant to work off the accessories part of the ignition switch which VWs don't have. Just connect it through the ignition.

The unit in my daughters early 2005 works fine. I remember seeing a setting for the delay for shut down after ignition off. There was options for 20/40 mins plus some more, it was set to immediate so I left it alone. But I can’t remember if it was in the head unit or in the CAN gateway adaption (I think it was in the head unit)
Perhaps there is an option for it never to shut down??

I did notice if I told the CAN gateway there was no radio installed the head unit would not turn on.

        This for android eBay radio..

There is a newer revision can gateway which you need for newer radios to stop them from draining the battery. not sure on the revision number.

i currently hook my both powers to constant 12v and turn the radio off manually when i leave the car.

Actually the ebay seller instructed me to unplug a wire on the harness and it fixed this issue. It looked like it was connected to constant B+ power. Now only accessory power.

Easily fixed! So far so good.

              Hey mate,

I seem to have the same problem as well. Which cable did you unplug or change on the harness?

              Cheers.
