  • Rattles Covered By Warranty?

I've got a MK5 GTI 2007 which is perfect in everyway, but when listening to the stereo, the front passenger door rattles.

I've now got 2 songs that are a perfect showcase for the problem, and they sound perfect when faded back left, back right, front right, but on front left it sounds really rattly.

The speaker is clear throughout the register so it does not sound like the speaker is blown (not a woofy sound) but a resonant frequency of the door comes to life and rattles like crazy.

Is this warranty or too bad?

ive heard of people getting such things fixed under warranty. The thing id be cautious of is in the process of removing the doortrim they may fix your speaker but make something else rattle

warranty just turn the bass down when you take it in there so they dont htink you've been blasting it you can always turn it up when you give them the demo of the sound

I'm hoping so. I listen to an American talk radio show and the bass from the guys talking causes the trim on the driver side door to rattle at times. I'm sure it's more noticable with people talking moreso than music.

I have a similar problem with the rear speaker(s). Will also get it checked out at first service.

It almost sounds like the speaker isn't screwed in properly!

That couldn't be it though... Go back and get it sorted and tell us how you go

The Tamworth Dealer told me 12 months / 15 000km for rattles under warranty, even for well known problem ones eg. top dash diffuser on a Jetta. By the way, the service department knew nothing about this particular rattle and would not even look at it unless I left the car overnight. I told them it was a 10 minute job and that I would do it myself. Can't wait till the Jetta comes off lease and I can choose a VW specialist for all my work.

                  kinda starting to annoy me
this might be a stupid question but is it that hard to take the door covers off yourself?
ive got a sub but if other people have it cant be that can it....

Is the rattle still there when someone is in the passenger seat? I traced my rattle to the seatbelt mount on the floor. Fixed it with a bit of tin jammed between the floor and belt retractor. Had 3 trips to the dealer to get it fixed to no avail so I did it myself.

I've got a MK4 GTI and a MK5. The MK4 doors are built like nuclear bunkers so I can only imagine what the MK5's are like. I wouldn't recommend a novice pulling the door trims apart.

I just don't want to go to get it looked at the then have 2 more rattles when I drive home after the service! I've got a scheduled service in 8 weeks so I'll get them to have a look at it then.
