Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Difference between Golf GTI V 2005-2008?

Is there any differences between the year models for the current Golf GTI DSG V car?

Is launch control with DSG on all years from 2005? Thanks

Things I know of for the whole car and not just DSG:
    • MP3 compatibility arrived on the MY08 models.
    • Different dash surround on stereo for the MY08.
    • RNS510 arrived on MY08.
    • Launch control is on MY07 DSG vehicles and later I believe (may need correction).
    • DSG may have been updated (only minor) for the MY08 (may need correction)
    • I think the MY08 also came with a variety of tyres (Continental, Michelin and Pirellis) as opposed to just the Contis (may need correction).

Thank you for asking this question airofu! I'd like to know the same info as well, as a potential purchaser of a used Golf GTI (V) - though probably not a DSG version in my case.

Any differences in engine, clutch, gearbox, suspension, ecu (including increased or decreased tuning potential), etc. etc. etc.!

      Cheers - Nik

Tuning wise I don't think anything is different as they've never changed outputs or anything major engine wise.
Here in the dubbing corner we're not like Holden and Ford where we bump the power up barely into a model cycle and devalue the earlier models.

As far as we understand, launch control is enabled in all of the cars -

the biggest difference is the 05' is the higher compression motor.

No real problem with any of them though!

TDI's don't get launch control on the DSG's and it's available on all MY07 and newer GTI's and Jetta GLI's with DSG.

There is a TSB out with the details. Here's the first page with some details.

05 = forged pistons, DSG heatsink and open vents (if you had the DSG option), projector fog lights, active head restraints, rear window integrated antenna (unless satnav)

07 = lost all of the above (although the integrated antenna was not that much of a loss)

Things got progressively less (including less leather if you took that option) as the years went by

08 = Full MFD (without having to order Sat Nav), MP3 enabled stereo. The 3 doors also lost the rubber strip on the rear side windows....

Even the 06-07 versions had different tyres. Mine's an MY07 but was the first batch of 200 3 doors in 06 and it had Dunlop Sports SP01A

I'm sure there are more, but I cannot remember off the top of my head... Launch control was available on all GTI DSGs in Australia

So from reading what's been posted so far, it looks like the engine on the 05 is higher compression and has forged pistons. That seems like a pretty substantial difference to me... any further thoughts on that? Sorry I'm still a newb in the veedub world... are the 05's sought out specifically for those reasons?

                      Cheers - Nik

P.S. And yes I know that teh internetz is not always 100% accurate, so I'm taking all of this with a grain of salt

Now thats an unfair statement Treza FPV kept their 290KW constant from Feb 03 thru to end 2007. They only tweaked it to 302KW in the last few months to try and shift the dregs.

Thou I agree with you for holden, every 6 months its another exactly 10KW. I suspect holden start out with a higher number, and the marketing guys wind it back so they can promote an extra 10KW to sell more, and equally piss-off their existing customers.
