Stage 3 Upgrade APR

Hey guys,

I'm currently looking into doing the Stage 3 upgrade with APR for my mk5 GTi (non-dsg).

Now, I'm told that they recommend the following:

1. Replace clutch
2. Upgrade suspension

I'm getting the coilovers (sourced independently) as I want a lower ride-height and a more solid feel. My main question is, do I really need to replace my clutch?

Any feedback greatly appreciated.

If APR recommend a clutch swap, it's highly likely to need it.

For this type of info I'd be looking at vwvortex.com or a MK5 specific forum.

I am not aware of anyone on VWWC going down this road yet.

hey Aleksii,

Your stock clutch may last a while (if in good shape) - but it really depends on driving style. One attempted hard launch will fry it quickly. - the stock clutch clamps really well up to around 440nm (at the top of the Sach's allowance scale) - A Sach's racing clutch is good for in excess of 500nm.

Don't forget clutch abuse will kill all but a ceramic race clutch if you try hard enough!

Suspension & brakes should be looked at to, around town & at legal speeds the stock stuff does a damn good job - but on closed roads, the track & mountain roads, you should consider these as part of the modification!

guy i dont suppose you know if its the same clutch in the gt tdi? 440nm is not at all hard to exceed in this beast.... cheers.

Have not investigated the GT TDI so no idea sorry.

Really appreciate your feedback. Outcome = Get the clutch to be on the safe side.

I have been in contact with Alex these last few days, so the tomorrow it will be definite whether I will be going ahead with the upgrade. Fingers crossed!
