      By reading the article, sounds like the build quality will be less refined & of less quality to minimise costs.

      Id say the MKV will be the best made Golfs, so far and into the future.

          Hopefully so, as I have just ordered my MKV! I wanted to wait for the MKVI but really can't keep post-poning my new car.

            Sorry mate but as far as build quality is concerned, it peaked at the Mk4. Even if they had a bit too soggy suspension and were underpowered.

              MKVs have probly been the worst built of the lot i reckon. Certainly the most problematic.
              MKV will be remembered for its revival of the GTI model which can be taken seriously.
              I dont think we can judge the MKVI till we drive it really. Just cos the cost of production may come down doesnt mean it wont be an awesome car to drive.

                I disagree, the interior of the MKV is above the 1 series BMW by far, and costs less.

                Defitnaley best value for money when it comes to overall build quality and luxury. I know because I owned a 130 last year.

                  Just because something is cheaper to build doesn't necessarily make it of less quality or less reliable. As long as it is cheaper to build because of improving efficiency rather than lowering quality of the materials and workmanship, then I don't see it as being much of an issue.

                  At the same time, I hope they don't turn the Golf into a soulless, boring Toyota Corolla like car.

                    still, I dont like the sound of the article ;

                    VW is finding the current Golf just too expensive to build, so the MkVI has been made simpler, more straightforward and quicker to assemble than an Ikea lampshade. Much quicker.

                    To keep costs (and weight) down, it's based on the MkV platform - fine by us - but with a new skin and touchy-feely interior. Get used to that lower, wide front end: it's the new VW 'family face' that'll be rolled out across the range over the next couple of years.
