I think after paying $70k for a car you have the right to ask all the questions to your hearts content. Whether other people decide to answer them or not is another topic.

VW warrant their product with a certain level of engine tune. I may not be an optimal tune but it's where they want it for the level of warranty offered.

Aftermarket suppliers are willing to optimise the tune but this takes the car beyond the manufacturers specification applicable to the warranty offered.

Surely it's almost fraud to have something go bang & not tell VW up front that you have modified certain aspects of the vehicle.

Sometimes, if you want to play, you have to pay.

Absolutely true and if you want to do so, you have to be prepared to take the risk (as minimal as it is from all accounts)

Phone Guy ... you'll get all the answers you need. Stretching this thread out by asking one question at a time seems a very slow and inefficient way to satisfy your information needs to me.

Sorry, didn't realise that an R was the only car on the planet that tempts you to put your foot down, please accept my most sincere apologies for daring to suggest that the Jetta could possibly present any such temptation and thereby be in any way remotely compared to an R.

That's the funniest thing I've read in ages.

So a person with an R32 is more inclined to give their car the welly than anyone else?.....

and you paid $70k? My mate told me his R32 was <$60k. I'm officially confused now. (way beyond my price range so i've never looked)

Most people are wary of warranty issues but why would you expect VW to warrant something outside of their engineering specification? There's a few things I'd like to do to my car but I won't be touching it until everything is bedded in & it's had the first service. Others don't care & do mods straight away; some never change a thing believing that the manufacturer knows what is best for the car.

Every mass produced car is a compromise. The GTI is tuned as to take different fuels around the countries and if someone decides to put 91 octane fuel in their car it is tuned so that no damage will happen straight away at least. Suspension is a compromise and there are those that want better handling so they stiffen them up later on.
People improve their cars to suit their own needs, thats it!

                    Zero.

                    And that includes all the M5's, M6's, F360's F430's, Gallardo's, RS4's, R8's, GT3's, 996 & 997 Turbo's (all under warranty) - as well as 60k & 70k R32's.

Believe me, the last thing we would ever want to do is install an untried, untested software in a car - we have been selling performance software in Australia since 1997 now & if we had R32's with engine problems, I'm sure we wouldn't be in business now.

That is why we select our tuning partners very carefully. - Companies that purchase & resell files are all over the place - You have to make the decision who you are dealing with - I can put you in touch with dozens of R32 owners with our mods & you can see local dyno's performed as well.

                        Guy,

May I just taker a moment to commend you on your patience and honesty, together with the fantastic support provided (especially through this thread).

It would have been quite easy to say..."here's my mobile...call me", but you have put forward for all to see, your business acumen and ethos, which I see as nothing but outright honesty and support.

                        Congratulations.

The reason I ask is because prior to this discussion I had read the documents and in my mind the maximum claim seemed to be less than the cost of the possible number of parts that could break.

e.g. 6500 Euros is a lot of money but is it enough to replace a whole motor + labour? The cover doesn't say "will replace said parts" only up to a certain value.

                                Like insurance on a car:

If you scrape a pole - do they give you a new car? No.

6500 Euro will easily cover the cost of your average rebuild - 11k AUD.

Replace a turbo - easy - not expensive at all.

rebuild a transmission? of course - with ease.

If you want coverage for a new motor, that can be arranged, but like all insurance, your premium would rise to suit. If you insisted on a replacement car for any damage to yours, I'm sure your premium would rise as well.

Unfortunately insurance is not free - its a cost component of the Oettinger software & is used by thousands of customers worldwide each year.
