Wanted - Karthoum Rims for MKV Golf

First post, so hopefully it's as should be.

I am after what I am now beginning to believe is some of the rarest rims in VW history. A Karthoum 18x8 Rim. I have a accessory kit on this MKV and had the unfortunate luck of cracking a rim. I have literally tried everywhere to find one. I did find one on eBay but it's black and the cost of repainting it makes me question whether its better to buy a complete new set of rims.

Has anyone any knowledge where I can get these rims? (VW has made them obsolete) The part number from VW is 1K0 071 498 1zL. They are 18x8's. If not what other 'reasonably priced' would you recommend to purchase and where from?

You are right, no longer made so choices will be limited.

Naples Speed are a decent US mob, otherwise you'll need to keep an eye out online from overseas and take a punt.

Or as you have suggested look to change over to something else. As for reasonably priced, it depends on your definition.

Hi Dutch and thanks for the link I will definitely give this a try. Also you are right about the budget. I am thinking I don't want to spend more than $800 - $1,000. Closer to the lower end would be ideal. I am looking for recommendations based on what looks good to go on a MK5 silver Golf and a set that won't end up becoming rare as hen's teeth.

You can always get cracked alloy rims repaired unless it is a catastrophic crack obviously. I cracked a 19' Talladega rim on my Golf R. I looked around for a week or so to see if I could find a replacement at a reasonable price but most people want to sell 4. In the end I had it repaired for around $180.00. The wheel was also buckled and the fixed that too. I just dropped the wheel and tyre of and when I got it back it was repaired repainted with the tyre refitted and balanced.

Thanks Bora Sport. Really good idea and I did check into this, however. When you repair alloy wheels you have to heat the wheels (the area they are repairing) to a really high temperate around where the crack is. This makes that section of the wheel a little more brittle and more likely (much more) to crack again. That is why most of these repairers do not offer any guarantee around their job. The quote I got was $220 (including delivery). It is my absolute last resort and one that I will consider if I can't find another single wheel.

Glad you found the spot - not sure what happened with the link!

For that budget (if you don't go the fix) I'd be looking around for someone selling off their used 18s OEM or lower ended branded.

You can certainly buy new wheels for that price, but I wouldn't touch them. And I suspect neither would you given your (correct) concern in repaired strength.
