Boot Liner

Hi all,

I'm looking at getting a boot liner for the new '08 Golf TDI GT Sport when I get it. I emailed the dealer and asked if he could get me a decent price on one and he replied saying he could supply one for $140. The only thing I am unsure of is that he says it is made from some sort of foam type of material (not rubber or plastic) he says it is the most popular one used and is quite durable but I was wondering if anyone on the Forums has one and could vouch for the quality of the material used.

its alright, its just a peice of foam though. mikinoz on here i think it was made his own from clark rubber material

A demo I drove had one in it -piece of crap compared to the one in my Liberty and last falcon. Not sure if they make a proper one.

We got one. It is foam but it's specifically shaped to fit the boot. I find it alright - easy to clean, does the job, and it's easier to get in and out because it's foam (and probably easier to clean than plastic).

Certainly not worth $140 (mind you, what dealer options are worth what you pay). We had it thrown in.

Definitely better than not having one and glad I got it for when the sports bag goes in the boot.

It seems durable enough. It's not flimsy foam - I've used my car to move house, put a number of heavy items in the car with the seat flat, and it's taken a beating with things placed on it and it has kept it's shape.

i ended up forking out for the VW bootliner. and yes $140 is a bit steep for a bit of foam... but considering the amount mine gets used along with the cargo net it really was money well spent. it terms of cleaning it i just hose it down every few weeks and its really effective to stop all my crap sliding around.

Thanks everyone, I think $140 is a bit steep too , then again I bought my last one (a genuine moulded rubber) for the BA XR6, used off eBay for a little over $40 (like new) haven't seen any for the Golf and the only rubber ones I can find other than genuine VW are O/S in the U.S. and U.K. and from what I've found so far they won't ship them over here. zz2 how much did the one you have set you back ? (if you don't mind me asking) I don't really want to part with my arms and legs so I will probably end up with the foam one it will be better than nothing !!!

I paid closer to $170 (ripped off).
It is still worth it, it also stops things sliding around and is much easier to clean than the carpet. highly recommended.

There seems to be a bit of confusion here re the boot liner.

VW have TWO liners for the MkV Golf. Both are the pretty much the same re shape and dimensions.

The difference is, one is foam (dark grey colour) the other is hard plastic (black colour).

A quick call just now to my friendly VW parts guy revealed the following prices.

Foam : $109.22

Plastic:$163.55

Trade diso**** would bring these prices down of course.

The one pictured in a post above is the hard plastic liner which is the one I also have.

The plastic liner will not stop stuff sliding about. The liner itself is a very snug fit and does not move about at all, however the smooth plastic has no grip. Cardboard boxes and plastic shopping bags etc need to be secured

The main advantage of it is to protect the boot carpet from spillage.

The liner is easy to remove and replace however the rear seats really need to be down to make the job easy.

Hey Russ,

I had the wife do a bit of sewing for me. I made one up out of vinyl that you can buy at a Spotlight store for my Jetta.

I removed the carpet and used as a template then cut out and had the wife stitch a few sides (tray like) and add some stragetically placed velcro patches around teh topedge to hold in place. Provides a great wet barrier, is reasonably light, easy to remove and clean!

All up cost about $25 in vinyl and the velcro the wide already had. 1/2 hour to template and fiddle, 20 minutes to sew up and trim, 2 minutes to install.

And you can choose from a variety of vinyl colours!

Worth a thought! And save heaps!
