Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Parrot v5.11c bluetooth

Ok - before I go back to the dealer for the 3rd time and blow my top - I want to run this by some MkV Owners.

I bought my GTI with the in car Parrot v5.11c bluetooth system,

    first one - dud,

    2nd one - dud,

    third one installed yesterday.

Iphone 3g paired perfectly - worked a treat, phoned my brother - hooray it's working. What I didn't check is if anybody can call me. NOPE.

What happens is - the car stereo display shows a call coming in, but the iPhone itself rings (ie not thru the car speakers), but I can hear a clicking sound thru the speakers while the phone rings. Pressing the phone icon on the steering wheel doesn't work.

So I answer the call by pressing the call button on the phone - which basically means cutting the bluetooth connection and using the phone as normal.

Now before anybody starts blaming the iPhone 3G - it's not the phone - the iPhone works perfectly in Toyos and a mates Ford. I don't know anybody with a new VW to test on theirs.

And the same problem also happens with my Nokia phone.

Sounds like another install problem with the Parrot system yet again - but I just want to make sure before I go back to VW.

I just have the standard stereo system in the GTI not the SatNav.

    cheers for any ideas

Get the proper VW bluetooth and not the crap Parrot system which is unreliable and has a 300% failure rate. The proper bluetooth works well and integrates into the car properly.

          mmm...thats weird !!
i had mine for 3weeks and abit now. It works perfectly fine with my blackberry 8320 & Motorola V3i Razor.

While on the road, I never try answering a call by pressing the answer button on my blackberry but instead the phone icon on the steering wheel.

dude, bring it back & get em to fix it !! seriously !!!

Thats the good thing having warranty.

I had mine installed in Feburary and hasn't missed a beat since. Mind you I had it done by thecarkitcompany and it is OEM parrot on VW.

No steering wheel integration but the control wheel is tiny and you don't notice it

Narrowed down to a problem with the Phone key on the steering wheel - doesn't work, not connected properly - who knows?

Tried pairing with a TDI over the weekend with the same Parrot setup - works perfectly.

So it's back to Dealer for another try.

I went through hell with my bluetooth being delayed continually while VWA were trying to get it to integrate properly, still not done.

                I didn't wan't to be a guinea pig.

Got a refund from the dealer.

Organised for VW bluetooth to be fitted (same solution as Maverick).

Talked with Guy from Harding Performance in Brisbane and organised with Dean from Volkspower, Burwood Vic to get it fitted.

Cannot talk highly enough of the customer service from both of these gentlemen.

Now some of you may think that the price (>$1k) is a bit expensive but consider the following:

1/ the VW unit is engineered to match the acoustics of the interior.
2/ it integrates nicely with the RNS510 and MFD
                3/ it is completely hidden
4/ the company that makes it, Harman Schreuder Temic has significant experience with car acoustics, and Temic has significant experience with voice recognition and noise suppression.

People on the other end of the calls find it hard to pick that it is a handsfree.

The only problem I had was with my Nokia 6121 phone (known bluetooth problem). loaded a simple application and it was solved.

I should have gone with the solution from Dean in the first place.
