  • Indicator's stay on?!

    Hi guys,

I've looked all over the site to see if anything being posted on this before and couldnt find... so apologies if it is already been covered!

My problem is... When i am driving, probabaly having almost everytime i drive, my indicator's (both of them) dont actually flash?!
They will turn on, but the orange light will stay permanently on until i have turned the corner, or i flick it back to normal position...

Once it has happened once... it will happen until i turn the car off...
Once it is turned off, and back on... it has fixed the problem!?

    Any ideas?!

Probably a bad indicator control module... aka Hazard light switch.

Mine went bad a few years back.

have a look on the vwvortex mk4 faq.

    any one else have ideas?

Could be one of the relays, I had a series of problems including an issue with my indicators in my mk3, which dissapeared after I had a $30 relay changed.

Also, when this happens, find a chance to stop with the fault still active (light still on) and check front and back lights to see if both are lit. Sometimes a faulty bulb can wreck the circuit.

Yep sounds like the Hazard switch for sure mate!!!! Common as. Dave you are right that the circuit gets compromised but the light then flashes faster.

I have a similar issue with my MK III... when I brake, the indicators stop working, and the top brake light flashes... It's doing my head in.

Mate you have a different problem, Sounds very like a bad earth , clean your connectors at your clusters and the clusters themselves with some good electrical spray. Check that your earth is in fact earthed as it sound like the earth is tracking elsewhere. Voltage will find the easy way out and by the sounds on your brake circuit.
                  Cheers

Tail lamp units mate and hey no question is dumb, some answers may be Go to your tail lights and pull the connectors off remove the tail light units - they just clip in. Clean the connectors with good electrical spray, clean any crap off the connectors on the clusters(tail lamp units) even with emery cloth if req. Check the brown wire on the connector which is the earth. Make sure it is earthing. Have a good look for any rust or green crap in the tail lamp units and clean it. Corrosion a big player in bad earths mate.

pricing on the hazard switch module?

Dunno. I went via the stealer. But it was less than the power mirror switch module $@(*
