  • Leaking injectors?

    Hi Guys,

Before I embark on replacing the fuel pump, I thought I would investigate the injectors and look for anything abnormal.

Now I haven't played around with fuelling before so I'm a novice, the best I have done is replace the fuel filter.

When I look at the injectors housed into the rail etc, there is a LOT of residue that surrounds them. It honestly looks and smells like petrol. But hard to tell because it's mixed in with engine grime.

I assume the seals perish over time.

    Has anyone experienced leaking injectors?

I don't even know what an injector looks like. Are the seals fixed onto the injector?

    Thoughts?

I noticed Pelican parts had a more relevant guide.

Volkswagen Golf GTI Mk IV Fuel Injector Replacement (1999-2005) - Pelican Parts DIY Maintenance Article

I also rang a mobile injector cleaning company, they qouted $140 to Ultra sonic clean, replace o-rings, pintle caps, filters etc. But when I look at the AGU injector it looks like a rather unimpressive piece of plastic.

But seriously all I want to do is pull them out, douse them in some cleaner, replace the o-rings and reinstall for about a grand total of $15.

        VW spares wants $6 per o-ring...8 needed - $48.. that's insane.

Does anyone know a business that specialises in o-rings?
