  • Back Light

I have a Eurovox HU. Great unit, wouldn't change it for the world.

Only one problem: The backlight doesn't work and it's starting to annoy me.

Now, I can remove the unit and I do have the sec. code. Only problem is is how to replace the light..

I don't necessarily want the change the Head Unit as it's still in top condition, also not to mention that it's a generally good unit with a good output.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hey Maca,

I am actually wondering how you removed the unit, i also have the Eurovox, am completely happy with it, however i want to remove it eventually to install an ipod connection behind it, but i dont have the appropriate 'u' hook tool to do so, did you use one or just make something up for it?

As for the back light, usually the LCD screes are lit up by small leds, which are intended to last a lifetime, so i wouldn't be surprised if it was difficult to get to and replace, however this is a German vehicle and it has ceased to amaze me the thought they have put into it so it could be possible.. Im sure someone else will help more.

    Evan.

Ok, to remove it I used an wire coat-hanger.

I cut it into 4 roughly 10cm pieces and jammed them into the 4 holes. Then with careful grip into the tape deck i pulled it out. Just make sure you have the sec. code before disconnecting the HU.

In the end, I took it to Northfield Car Sound, which for a mere $30 (when I got quoted at least $100 from other places, and $2,000 for a new 8790 HU by VW) replaced the two LED's. It works fine now!

Only thing is that the back light is white (it's fine though, as long as i can see it)... I thought it was supposed to be blue.

Yeah the blue would've been great. Like so it matched everything else.

But it doesn't really bother me that much. I'm just happy it works.. and and that price!
