  • Cost of service, parts

    Hi guys,

I'm still planning on getting a Bora.

I've rung around a bit for prices of service's, one quote was for $330/annual service.

Does this mean that people only get their Bora's serviced once a year?

Also, can anyone tell me how much parts are c.f. with other cars. e.g. radiator hose for a Subaru is like $40 tops, what kind of prices am i looking at for VW bora parts?

    Any indications would be appreciated..

    cheers

    jon

Jon, I have only had my Bora (4Motion -2001) for less than a year and I can tell you - in my experience the dealer prices for parts are pretty steep.

I've made a few purchases from overseas (US) and saved a quite a bit on the few parts I've needed.

All the below are Dealer (Perth) vs DELIVERED cost from O/S (3 orders)

    -Coil pack: $1000 vs $285
-Spark plugs (6) , ribbed (serpentine) belt & oil filter: $110 vs $ probably hundreds (1 spark plug is around $35!)
-Coolant temperature sensor: $75 vs $30

The other part that needed replacing was a LH front CV joint (shaft) - part price was around $1000 but due to a dealer stuff up I got it fitted for labour cost only.

    Cheers,

    Keith

You will find that servicing is once every 12 months or every 15000kms.

Hi jon, All I can tell you is VW servicing is 12 months or 15k. That is engine oil & filter.
30k add brake fluid & pollen filter & 60k add fuel & air filters + spark plugs.
Hoses normally last 10 years +.
        Cheers, Jaimo.

Doesn't include the Bora. But have a look at this thread for the service intervals and information for the 2.0, 1.8T and 3.2 Golfs.

Plenty of specialists in Adelaide. German Auto being one that I would use if I didn't do my own servicing.

              Kegworth Place in Melrose Park.

I am up for my 90k service on my bora 4motion, was quoted $498. Pretty steep but i think they do a great job and are really helpful. Last service cost me around 400 but only having to get it dont almost once a year compared to twice for a lot of other cars you cant complain.

Parts are expensive dude. So far I have had to:
Replace Alternator - stuck at a dealer $2100, got it at trade $1500
Replace Drivers Window motor - $450 dealer
Replace FRH CV boot - $350+ dealer ( I got it done elsewhere $130 )
Replacement brake pads - $275 - Got EBC green stuff for the same

List goes on, moral is shop around.
Bora has gone ;( Custom sub box and beige floor mats to suit for sale.

Wow, my favourite O/S place has remanufactured alternators for US$287, so probably WELL less than $400 landed in Aus.

                    Sheesh - $2100 from the dealer ???

I got all that stuff plus new pads and few other filters/bits and pieces delivered for $400. Postage was about $100 due to weight of the rotors!

I have been in the Sydney Dealer network for over 10 years & don't know anything about Bora service schedule being different to a Golf except for the Haldex part of it. GTI is the same also!
They are still 15k 12 months anyways. Where did that list come from??? is that for a O.S market?.
