Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Gle 2.0 golf automatic

Ok guys I am looking at maybe purchasing 2.0 golf gle but wanted to know has anyone actually modded one? Was thinking maybe putting gti motor in it eventually or something else. Any recommendations or any build threads that can see please.

    It's an auto.

Avoid it at all costs. The transmission will let you down, and they're an expensive repair.

Then get an r32 with DSG!
        MK4 GTI - Sold
        MK5 Jetta Turbo - Sold
        MK5 Jetta 2.Slow - Until it dies.

Yep, something with a DSG in it is a better bet.

Before you go that route it might be worth having a look at the build threads of people who have done these things - once you total the initial cost of the car, then add engine/ gearbox/ loom/ ecu/ brakes/ other upgrades etc into the equation, it might be cheaper just buying a GTI or R32 stock and starting from there - unless you're intent on creating a one off.

I just wouldn't even entertain the idea.

You can buy a DSG R32 for $15K, and enjoy it for what it is.

Or spend double that, trying to turn something else into one.

                  That's clearly not a Mk4 though if it's DSG ...
