Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Hi guys. The sound from my '03 GTI's DV has changed from the normal psssh sound to a flutter (like in this video), so I'm guessing the APR R1 DV has given up and needs replacing. I've done a bit of searching here and around the net for replacement options and was hoping I could get some opinions. My car has the APR K04 upgrade, along with 2.5" turbo back exhaust, Forge FMIC, BMC CDA being the main ones.

Will an OEM 710N get the job done or are one of the after market DVs, such as GFB DV+, Forge 007 or 008 or another APR R1 a better option?
03 MkIV GTI - K04-001, APR 2.5" TBE/TIP/Software, Forge FMIC, GFB DV+, Powergasket+, Dark Tint, 17" Bora Sport, Bilstein shocks, Eibach springs, BMC CDA, Dieselgeek SS, Hella Celis, R32 Alloy Trim...

GFB DV+ all the way for me. Although I'm only Stage 1 but it ****s all over the OEM DV.

Yep, agree with the GFB DV+ - Have one installed on my APR tuned 8L S3 and it is soooooooo much better than the stock pos. Plus they're local and the boys will help you should you run into any issues.

If the DV is sealing and lifting under vacuum, there's nothing wrong with it. Mine flutters through the BMC CDA. It's an EVO one with a diaphragm like the APR.

Test things before throwing them out, your wallet will thank you.

Not lifetime warranty on the APR one, check that out.

Any further information on this claim? What do you exactly mean?

The ability of the GFB to hold boost and then also regain boost post gear changes is much much better than the OEM DV. I don't have a boost gauge, other than the bum in seat boost gauge, but that's certainly what it feels like. Also seems to hold boost more/longer in the top end revs. Again only judging by the seat of the pants boost gauge.

I do know the feeling your talking about in regards to the regain of boost after changing gear. I noticed that with my forge copy I was running for a while. I thought it might have had something to do with the spring design. But I think the gfb valve is diaphragm still. Interesting to know.

Just installed the GFB DV+, it is a piston type DV. Car is feeling healthy again and the flutter is gone. The DV+ is noticeably quieter than the APR R1.

Let us know what you think of it - personally I love mine as it holds boost quite well and isn't obnoxious. That little "psshhh" is more than enough!

I have an older version GFB DV+ 9301 i think the model number is.
it seems to be opening slightly at higher boost. (Stage 2 k03s)
i need to plumb in a boost gauge to be sure. but Lito had the same problem when he had it on his stage 3 mk4.
