  • My 1.8t wont start! Need some guru help!

Ok guys quick run through whats been going on. Firstly I tried to go phase 3 with all supporting mods, car would start and run but really rough and lean. Would drive but would stall as I would brake. ( had to push it down my street a few times test driving it)

This was running a phase 3 tuned a3 ecu
    S3 386cc injectors
    3" maf housing
    4 bar FPR
    Dw65 fuel pump.

After digging through heaps of forums it seemed the A3 ecu wouldnt adapt the throttle body as the ecu was from a non cruise control car and the GTI has a cruise control throttle body.

Decided to change all parts except turbo back to stock and run a CH ecu which is for a GTI and had Immo defeat ( Thanks Gav!)
Throttle body adapted frin through vcds but would not run at all. Did a scan and came up with fault 01249,01250,01251,01252 (short to ground intermitten)

Decided to run through the engine loom to try and find any damaged wires. Only found a damaged injector wire but wasnt the issue. Managed to source another engine loom and swapped them over. This time it started but only for a few seconds then stalled. Seems Im just going backwards now. Scanned it today and came up with codes:

    18010 - Power Supply Terminal 30
    P1602-35-10 Voltage too Low Intermitten
01262 Solenoid Valve For Bosst Pressure Control (N75)
    26-10 Output Open Intermitten

Had this not running for too long now so I need help If I could afford a mechanic to spend a few hours trying things I would but I feel I should try and find it myself to feel like Ive done it properly!

Random shot but do you know if your car is immo3 or immo2? Wondering if there is something screwy with the immobiliser as with my mates its was a similar thing it would run then die. immo3 has immobiliser in the cluster which then also talks to the ecu but i know you said the ecu has a immo defeat but might be something to check up.

Look at Ross tech for immo differences. Something about 17 digit part numbers.would have an immo fault light and code though, if that were a problem.

Yea I had that before with the immobiliser when I first used the original ecu but its nothing to do with this as it ran before on the AQ ecu and now it wont even keep going. Even changed the icm aswell ( got 3 now)

I'm not sure that it would as the key and cluster have the correct match which is usually the cause for the code, the issue being with the ecu. Again not 100% on this its just something i noticed when we swapped my mates immo defeated ecu in it would start then die. Even though that makes no sense as the immo defeat should get around that. But if it ran before that should throw it out the ball park. Should be able to check through VCDS if im not mistaken but i'd hate to be taking you down the wrong path.

Update: fitted a working MAF and car started and ran for a few minutes but then stalled and stopped. Need to check the fuel pump relay and power to the pump to see if its the problem. Couldnt be the pump as its brand new! So Im hoping its the relay!

Never discount something just because it's new mate. But the fact it idled for a decent amount of time is encouraging in my eyes.

What was the water temp when it stopped. Any other events to report, was it chugging for a bit or did it just stop dead?

Will it restart and idle for a while or nothing?

Didnt record what the temp was, car didnt run for that long to even get upto temp. Idles quite fine then just dropped dead, didnt even fight it. Tried to start it straight after but couldnt get it started.

It took Lito's 5 minutes to move the needle from a cold start.

If you get it running and it quits. Don't touch anything but see if there's fuel pressure in the rail still. Crack the feedline or something. Leave the ignition on, I think the pump might run as you switch it off?

In fact do you hear the pump prime after it cuts off?
