Heater core probably blocked .... On my first bora this was the case ... Pull off the hoses on the passenger side firewall and Flush it out until water flows both ways at a good rate ....

I used a garden hose and gradually increased the pressure .... Try and go the opposite to normal fluid direction ....

Failing the heater core block test - Do you have any bits of foam in or coming out of the vents?

If you can see any evidence of foam, then you likely have the same issue as what I currently have and many other mk4 owners do; that is that a piece of foam on the blend door that separates the heating from the cooling air flow has disintegrated. The foam covers two factory holes on the door and when it disintegrates the heating and cooling airflow mixes.

Unfortunately to replace/fix the blend door issue you need to pull out the dash and pick open the HVAC box.
To do this you will also need to degas your aircon and replace the receiver/drier bottle as the hvac box has aircon gas in it.

I'm planning to do mine in a fortnight. Hopefully will also help me get to the bottom of my internal damp issues.

You will not need a regas to fix the blend door foam issue, just pull it apart clear out the old foam and put on some decent duct tape.

Every post I read about it online said that if you have the climatronic models then the hvac box needs to be split open and the air con gas removed from the car as a result.

There is no foam coming out of vents at all. I checked that, everything looks normal......

Added some pics of blend door fix.

All the gas stuff happens in the condenser bits the air itself never comes in contact with the gas.
The door allows the blown air to flow over either the cooled condenser or the hot heater radiator.

Thanks heaps for those pictures mate - timesaver!! Here I thought I have to rip out all my dash and muck around with aircon gassing and a new receiver/drier bottle.

OP - sounds like you either have a blocked heater core or maybe the blower and/or solenoid has kicked the bucket.
Do you get good air flow? Does it blow out of different vents in line with the climatronic settings?
