  • Cruise Control problem in 2001 Bora 4motion

Hi every one , I have just bought a 2001 Bora 4motion (silver) that i just love! It is perfect in just about every way except i can not get the cruise control to work for the life of me. The little icon lights up but no cruise action when i press set ( tried at various speeds ) . Any of you guys got any ideas ?
    Cheers Chris

Ps . Would just like to thank all of you for such a great forum , made researching my Bora purchase so much easier .

    Try the brake switch?!
Sometimes they are faulty causing problems with Cruise Control etc.

Yeah quick check for this is brake slightly with your left foot whilst your right is still on the throttle and you should feel the engine die slightly, if this doesnt happen then its the brake pedal switch for sure. Very common.

Also check the stalk they can cause problems even if the dash icon is lit.

I don't have to hold mine down for 2-5 seconds. I just give it a quick press and off she cruises.

i think he has done the brake pedal switch test and showed to be faulty, couple of posts back indicates that, its a good test and works the exact same on Audi and Porsche

Will have to test this fix on mine - it started playing up today - sometimes it wouldn't set, other times it'd be set and then there'd be a blip of the throttle and it'd disable itself. Holding resume down gives a brief blip of the throttle after 3-4 seconds, and that's it.

If it's not one thing, it's another...
                    Nothing to see here...

Same. If you hold the button it will start accelerating

                        Is it manual ?
Try setting the speed when going fast. Then when going slower down hill hit resume and see what happens. If it works down hill it may be that your clutch is slipping and it gives up.

I have the exact same issue as the OP. I'll try the brake pedal test when I get a chance, but what needs to be done to actually fix the problem (assuming it is the brake pedal switch)?

You head down to your local VW parts centre and buy a new switch for ~$20-$30, you then install the switch. Easy as pie. There's a nice how to guide on vortex for the brake light switch (not worth paying someone for an hours worth of labour for a 5-10min job).

                            Cheers,

The older switches you could stuff up big time, but most dealerships now stock the revised switch which is a up in and 1/4 turn, done.
Most Techs will charge around 1/2 hr to fit which they are more than entitled too.
