(Disclaimer this is how i believe it works) For immo2 the cluster has the immobiliser which links to the transponder in the keys. For Immo3 there is an extra layer where the ecu talks to the cluster to make sure they share the same information but the keys are still linked to the cluster. So when you find out the SKU of the clusters you are allowing keys to be synced basically with the cluster and they will loose any connection with the old cluster.Originally posted by RolfGolf View PostShouldn't the cluster and the key be adapted to each other if they came out of the same car? (I'm asking for information purposes here as I really don't know how this works ...)
Ah, wait up - I think I misunderstood this - so you're now wanting to fit the Bora Sport clocks in place of the GTI ones?
When you say the backs have different components do you mean the plugs don't fit from the GTI to the new Bora Sport or is that all fine?
All clusters should have the same plugs but the layout of the clocks is different
Im confused here. What are the two sets of clusters in the first couple of posts? If you go from no MFA to one with MFA you will need the stalk to control the MFA. I can try and dig something up on that but the first post you had has it well defined. You may have an issue here if you have the immo defeat and may need your old ecu. I can't confirm that but i have heard cases of that causing an issue. Basically you will need to put the old ecu in swap clusters then the other ecu can go back in. This is all if its immo3.Originally posted by dubster99 View PostSo my 1.6 has no mfa, the GTI does aswell as the bora sport as its not the full featured mfa. The faces looks better too. The difference when pull them both apart was the boras face splits into two and the 1.6 is one whole piece. Will have to buy vagtacho to do it all i guess. Yea so the A3 is litos old ecu with cc stage 3. Gav recently did an immo defeat due to my engine being early model and ecublate model. Ecu is from an agu so suits mine.
Yes. Internal shouldn't matter but i would have thought the clocks would be the same.Originally posted by dubster99 View PostSo I reporgram my key for the bora sport clocks
Plaugs are the same, the curcuit board isnt, different mouldings I guess.
Yes I want the bora sport clocks instead of the GTI ones as it looks so much better and suits my interior too
You can use vagtacho for all that but if you have vagcom its better to code the keys through that as its a bit more reliable. So it would beOriginally posted by dubster99 View PostThanks mate that will come in handy!!
Vagtacho for:
Skc retrieve
Mileage
Key programming?
Vagcom for?
Vagtacho for:
SKC
Milage
(EEPROM mod if you wish)
Vagcom for:
Keycoding and cluster softcoding
I got it from here. I've had a good interaction with them, dodgy cables (still do the job) but good support. I've purchased two cables both of which work (one for ecu tuning and the vag tacho). NOTE: I believe you will need a computer with windows XP as windows 7 can detect the dodgy chips and screw them over.Originally posted by dubster99 View PostThats right lachlan!
Back Door Shenanigans got a link to what vag tacho you got?

My bad here - the clocks shown in the photos are GTI and Bora Sport which both have half FIS. I was remembering Anthony's original 1.6 clocks which have no display - ie. just as my 2.0 clocks have no display. I'd assume that Anthony will be swapping the stalk from the GTI to control the Bora Sport clocks ...Originally posted by Back Door Shenanigans. View PostIm confused here.
