Im still unsure of what route to take on my MK4 so thought i would put some it to some of you to possibly comment on the below

In the time you have had your car, what do you consider to have been the best/most rewarding single mod that you have done?

Likewise, has their been any mods which you have done which were a bit disappointing, or that you regretted? i.e "i once put a RMIC on" (roof mounted intercooler)

It all depends on how far you wanna take it. If you don't plan on upgrading the turbo then a tune and exhaust would be the best bang for buck power wise. These things really can't be considered a gti until you get a tune on them, far too slow out of the box. My favourite mod will always be my deisel geek short shift kit and about the only thing I regret was wasting time and money on springs/shocks instead of getting coilovers first time round. Downpipe and tune. Best mods. K03s if you have a bit extra. Coilovers, not cheap ones. I can loan you a phase 1 ecu to try out if you want.

I was hoping to borrow the ecu off matt @Camden a little while ago but It was sent back before I got it. Was hoping to drive a stage 1 mk4 or mine with an ecu before I buy the tune.

tune totally transforms the mk4 GTI from a grocery getter to a race car..
the Custom Code tune is great! (stage 1 and 2)

if you can grab a down pipe from anywhere (eBay is fine) and a pod filter setup of some sort (I got a Drift brand pod and a 3" section of stainless pipe and a 2.75- 3"silicon reducer and bolted it all up
gives a lot more sporty noise and go straight to stage 2 tune

coilovers for sure are a great upgrade to throwing it through the turns and a rear sway bar to round it out

pretty much all the ebay downpipes i have seen dont have a cat. or am i missing something here

Some do some don't,
it won't affect anything on the car to run no cat.
Plenty of companies offer down pipes with cats off the shelf (42dd,miltek to name a few)

might just save up for a bit longer for something from 42dd. As much as I like the look of some of the ebay jobbies, I don't think my inner greenpeace agrees with it
