  • Clutch replacement price

I've just been quoted $1475 to replace the clutch in my 1999 Golf - is that price genuine or am I being ripped off?

I should elaborate further - they've quoted $800 for parts and $480 for labour plus GST and other extras - this is in Footscray, Melbourne. I think it's a 1.6l (it's actually the girlfriend's car). Would appreciate some advice on this.

I payed $1200 for a new HD clutch fitted and supplied, and they fixed some parts that I broke inside the box at the same time along with the clutch cable, so $1475 seems a tad overpriced!

Go to germanautoparts.com. Get it shipped from the US. When they arrive send VWTech a PM. He will fit it for you. Vw specialist for years.

If german auto parts do not have the parts, get VW tech to get them for you.
I reckon you'll be saving at least half of what you have been quoted.

          seems pretty normal ish.

Ededy OEM replacement is worth $750 odd at supercheap. then shops quoted between 500-800 odd to install it

Its a half a day job really. Which could be $500 in labour with the cost of a clutch on top.

I paid 800 for a heavy duty clutch for my A3 turbo. I would expect half that for a 1600.

I'm having mine changed as we speak.
I bought the Stage 1 kit from ECS which by itself would be about $650au landed (i bought an r32 rear spoiler too so i'm not 100% on the shipping). Cost to fit is around $660 i've been told.
