  • 2000 AEH 1.6 eating oil

    Spec:

    - MY2000 Mk4 1.6 manual
    - currently on 105,000 kms
    - new timing belt, tensioner and pump at ~90,000kms
    - new gearbox at 85,000kms

    Problem:

So my 1.6 has been eating a bit of oil (about 1L per 5K kms). It's done 105K kms and gets an oil change every 5K kms.

It hasn't drunk it's oil in the past 90K kms.

    Background:

Since new, it's always blown a bit of black soot on first acceleration from cold but didn't drink any oil.

Yes, the sump plug's on and the oil filter's on tight.

Power seems the same, so I'm not sure if it's losing compression.

It doesn't seem to blow any smoke atm.

    What to do:

I haven't checked the spark plugs to see if their fouled or not.... should I check it?

    Any other suggestions?

I haven't heard much about 1.6's drinking their oil, only 2.0's, so anyone know much about this?

    tia

    cheers

      Valvoline SynPower 5W40, VW approved.

      *shrug*

I'll just monitor it since it's in spec according to the owner's manual.
