  • Water in rear footwell?

I got in to my car yesterday and put something in the back and found the foot well behind the passenger seat for the rear seats was soaked and had heaps of water in it.

Any ideas of where it could have come from or how to fix it? I checked my rear door seals and they were all fine so I don't believe it was from there

Is it only the rear footwell area that is soaked?

My recent leak originated at the front of the car. (- the cabin pollen filter cover was cracked - that let water flow down through the venting into the front passenger side footwell.)

Yeah it is only my rear footwell that is wet which is why it is confusing me

Someone leave a window down in recent rain or door drains blocked and overflowed into car You have had some heavy rain recently in your area.

Wasnt parked and got flooded when you were absent one day perhaps

Might be worth sitting in the back seat and trying to see where the water is coming in while someone sprays the car with a hose.

Check the drainholes in the bottom of the doors Open a door and wave it back and forward and listen to see if any water in it. Had a car once that did that. Drilled a couple of holes in the bottom of the door outside the seals That fixed it.

From what i can find out it is the front left sun roof drain, the water goes in but doesnt come out, it is either a block in the drainage channel or a a hole somewhere as water is also getting on my A frame, any idea how to clear the channel? or fix the hole??

Remove the grommet at the door hinge area, and see if the brown hose is still connected.
If you remove the trim on the base of the a pillar below the glove box you may be able to locate the hose if it has come loose. It is difficult to reattach.
To clean it out use some trimmer line poked in from the top.
The grommet can be cleaned by removing and blowing it out.

Chances are it is blocked at the bottom at the grommet and the water is backing up and finding another route out.

Once it is all cleaned out and working again, just periodically squeeze the grommet end and see if water comes out.
Water should drain out quickly after rain etc., if you do see some water then it is likely to be getting blocked again and in need of some maintenance.

I had this problem in my bora. I cleaned the outlets of the drains from the sunroof. located under the car toward the rear bumper (kind in the vicinity of the mudflap). there should be a nipple either side which is closed off. i used a screwdriver and just shimmied it around in there and all this mud came out along with just under a Litre of a water.
