  • 2.0l lifters noisy

My 2.0l has been chipped also got a cam and portwork. Goes heaps better.
However lifters have started become a little noisier after startup and at the lower rev range.
    Is that normal?
Do I need to use different oil, I'm currently using castrol magantec 10-40?

Magnatec would have been the suggestion for this, have you changed the oil and filter lately????? Possible lifter fault mate.

Thanks VW tech. I am aware of the oil problem with the 2.0l. I regularly check it. I change the oil nearly every 7000kms. The vehicle has only done 54000kms.
When the engine has warmed up I cant hear them as much.
How expensive is it to change the lifters?

NOt sure on the lifter price but all can be done in situ. I would be fitting a timing belt too ( or you may have doen already, having that you have had the cam done)
Mate i would try another oil change 1st.

Okay, I'll go with changing the oil first. Should I still use Castrol Magnatec 10-40?

Yeah i have back in the day a flush with ATF for about 10 mins at 2500rpm. ATF is a straight 10w oil with defoaming agents and has been known in some cases to unstick lifters. Probably have a shop around as there is some good flushes out there now mate. Flush the engine and then switch to a Synthetic oil.
But yeah ATF has worked before Peedman, mate im talking around 1990 i witnessed this. Good to see ye know the oldies too mate and i always say the old fixes are generally the best ones.
To conclude though i would search for a good flush , then the synth oil pal

And you can find a flushing agent at any auto shop?

Jmac, I flushed the engine today and replaced the oil with mobil 1 5w50 fully synthetic. Did stuff all. Lifters are still noisy and after about 15-20mins of driving they quiet down but can still be heard.
Thanks for your tips. I think I'll replace them.

Anyone here want to do the job for me, or know anyone that can do it in Melbourne? VW tech?

                        Cheers

Don't know how the oil pressure is because there is no gauge.
The timing belt was changed when I did the cam at about 49000kms. Vehicle now has 54000kms.
I was thinking of purchasing the lifters from germanautoparts.com amd having someone do the job for me.
                            Any other suggestions?

                            Thanks

I Checked the oil pressure today. Oil pressure is normal at every rev range.
Changed Ryco oil filter that I used to a genuine one. Lifters are still noisy.
I will try the oil additive which quitens noisy lifters. If its a no go, got no choice but to replace the lifters.
