  • MK 4 Golf 2.0L

Hey guys i have just joined not too long ago and is my first post. My names John. Anyway, i stumbled to this forum after i bought a Golf 2001 model. With fairly low ammountof K's. After i serviced it this weekend, we noticed some yellow sludge inside the engine oil cap. After visiting a few web sites they have said it is condensation. The car is only driven from home to a station 5 days a week (around 10km's a day). According to others it needs to be driven to dry out the condensation in the engine, thus this is the cause of this yellow sludge to occur.
Also while servicing the car i noticed that the Drive shaft boots are leaking at the end on the driver side. Has this happened to any one else? What would be the worse case scenario if it is not replaced? If so what price would i be looking at for replacement.

Your information and knowledge would be appreciated.

    John

The yellow sludge is common on cars that dont get the oil hot enough to get rid of the condensation. Change the oil more frequently and go for some nice drives!!

Driveshaft boots do leak occasionally. Ive been driving on a leaking boot for about 1.5 years now and im not going to do anything about it till the joint blows up or starts making noises.

A&F driveshafts in melb will rebuild the shaft for $120. Where you from?

Sounds like it only needs a CV boot to me. Not bought one in Australia but they were sub 20 bucks in the UK.

If road crap gets in there it could wear out the joint. Where fitting a new boot would prevent that.
