  • Narrowband to Wideband ecu swap

    hey guys.
i am currently in the process of looking into getting a f21t turbo fitted to my 2002 mk4 gti 1.8t agu and have been chatting to doug at frankenturbo about tuning options. he has led me to believe that tuning of a narrow band agu ecu was rather limiting and that my best bet was to upgrade my ecu to a more modern (wideband) ecu.
there seems to be some posts around on vortex and such with a narrowband to wideband ecu swap but it has no pictures and its a pretty old post. all other posts i have seen have literally died as soon as anyone asks this question. there is very little searchable info that i can find online.

has anyone on vwwatercooled ever done this to there mk4 agu before? from what i can gather is that i can change my ecu with a wiring harness, o2 sensor and a aww or awp ecu with an immobiliser defeat, but am pretty hesitant to drop the dollars required just to give it a shot. is this possible? is this necessary? any info would be greatly appreciated.

There's nothing wrong with tuning the AGU ECU I have done several. You need to install a spare lambda probe bung in the exhaust to check the AFRs with an external wideband.
