  • Help! Car wont start...

    Hey again guys,

Its been ages! Ive got a problem with the bora 4motion. It has been running good, drove it out of of the garage this arvo to wash the car. I went to start it again tonight but it wont start. Its cranking over but wont keep running and the battery light is on. Also there is a weird humming noise coming from the engine bay. Not sure if this is normal. Help!?!

    Nathan

Does it run briefly and then cut off? If so then it's likely to be an immobilisation problem.

If you have a spare key I would try that and see what happens.

Nah it doesnt start at all. Its almost like the engine isn't getting fuel or something along those lines. Also i found my K&N and CAI was loose so was sucking in unfiltered air. Ive put the original filter and housing back on but still no good. Any other ideas?

you've checked the battery? is it fully charged? are the water levels high enough?

Check your MAF and all the "air flow" related stuff. perhaps the MAf is loose and not letting you start the car?

still then mabe scan for code with vag com? something might pop up if something like the MAF is loose or something like that, it should spit out a code

It would most likely run if the MAF were dead. When sensors produce no output they are ignored and performance suffers.

Jarred is right the best way forward is a scan for faults.

Yeah cheers, I dont think its the starter motor as the engine does crank, just doesnt keep running. I have a feeling it may be the MAF. Hardest part is scanning it. Anyone around the northern beaches willing to do a scan for us?? Its stuck in my garage though.

On 1.8ts if you unplug the MAF it will disregard it's input and run a base tune - Probably the same on the bora. Can't hurt to try.

Stilll no deal. It did start better this morning. It actaully started and ran for about 10 seconds at a really low idle and was struggling bad. I unplugged the MAF sensor but no good. Its very strange its all of a sudden happened. Im guessing its a sensor of some sort but cant take the car to garage to have it scanned. Six pack to anyone who can get round sometime soon and scan it for us?

Ok all good now! Very strange this one. Another few attempts and the car finally cranked over and kept running for about 30 seconds (very rough and at about 400 Revs) but finally jumped up to normal Revs and now runs great. Must have been water or crap on a sensor somewhere. Thanx for the help guys!

Get it scanned sharpish mate. That snag needs looking at before it comes back.

Check you have the newer engine temp sensor. Should be a green one. Have been known to cause problems!
