Mk4 reversing lights not working

Hi All, I am hoping someone might be able to help with my latest problem, the reversing lights have stopped working, I have checked both bulbs, they are ok,I have checked wiring which I think comes from switch on top of gearbox, can't see anything wrong, I have checked most fuses but am unsure which fuse is the correct one. If anyone can advise my next step I will be very grateful.

I am having the same problem with my Mk2 5 speed box in my golf - from what I have read and seen on mine - the contacts get burnt out! I have a new switch ordered and will be fitting a relay to take the load away from the reverse switch and hopefully stopping the switch burning out.

on your mk4 take the plug off the reverse light switch on the gearbox. should have 2 pins. bridge the 2 pins together with a piece of wire or hair clip etc. with pins bridged and ignition on if they work then switch will be faulty.....VDUB...
