  • using a electronic boost controller + chip

hey guys hope this is not stupid, but i just wanted to see your thoughts on using an APEXI AVCR together with a chip.
A few boys from the vortex forum have used them and according to what i have read they love it.

If you dont know what an avcr is, its basically a electronic boost controller that also gives you info on you engine i.e speed, rpm, boost (psi), and a bit more.

is this a "its not worth it" mod?
or would it be worth while.

The reason i'm thinking about one is because an electronic boost cont will hold boost alot better and stronger than what it usually does.
i dont intend on boosting the lil thing to 24psi.

    What do you think?

by what ive been told ad read its all got to do with the n75 valve, thats controls the boost, there is no way around it, the ecu see you pulling more boost and will hit limp mode, (i think) maybe someone else will chime in....
mk4 the mods begin for round 2 hahahha

        i was gonna buy one...

the avcr allows you to set boost at rpm. but becoz our euro cars have all this **** in the ecu i dont think it would work as good if it was a jap car..

jap cars pull g forces, euros pull g strings

yeah man they will work much better in a jap car our std ecu's are good how you cant blow the motor real easy, the only way to run heaps of boost is with a whole new ecu ie haltech, motec, autronic

Only if you're pulling it in the wrong direction.

you wouldn't hit limp that easy on an agu because it doesn't have a map sensor (that includes all mk4 golf gtis in aust).
you'd hit limp if you max out your injectors/maf, i've hit limp with k04/no software. just to give an example a k03 on 20psi+ (no software) never put me into limp mode
there is a guy on tex with APEXI AVCR + k03 chip (upsolute i think), runs a t3 60 and 400-something injectors on an agu engine. reason you dont hear about this on tex that much is because most of their cars are not agu & electronic boost controlers are apparently harder to set up on cars w/map sensors

                          Why run one though?

With a few small mods anda chip you're pushing 20+ PSI anyway.. ?

not too sure, i guess it allows you to set up boost levels and how it comes on non-dbw cars, whereas on a dbw cars can use v-tune/lemmi....forgot the full name again.
i can see why that guy would use one, probably to keep boost down as 20psi on t3 would put him into limp, but why not use a mbc? just had a look at apexi avcr specs and you can set up gear specific boost so maybe he went into limp mode only in certain gears and plus from what i remember he had scaled maf & injectors n all sorts of other ****, other than that i don't see much point in it as agu doesn't have boost spikes that could throw you into limp if mani pressure exceeded or does it have surging. i've got a mbc between the n75 valve and wastgate actuator but thats only there to slightly increase the boost.
