  • MK4 1.6 Brake upgrade question

Hey all , just a quick question , i did the front brake swap for the stock 1.6L AKL brakes to the 1.8T AGU GTI brakes

the whole system was flushed and bleed twice by my mechanic, now my pedal feels soft , not spongy and sinking to the floor but soft they still work but i have to push the pedal harder then before and the pedal isn't as firm as before , has any one else come across this ?

the only thing i can think is either the master needs to be swapped out for the gti one or my tiny motor doesn't make enough vacuum to make my pedal firm with the new bigger brakes ???

any input of advice would be great

    Cheers Aaron

did you replace with brand new pads & rotors? if it stops well but the pedal is spongy i would be inclined to think it's the pad bedding in. mine came good after about 100km of city driving. possibly it could be vacuum as you suggested.

i used the pads that where in the calipers when i pulled them off the car as the pads where only a few thousand k's old as where the discs , i had the discs machine and the pads where scuffed up before putting them in , i dont know if its just me getting use to them or if there are improving but they do seem to be feeling a little firmer today

Give it a couple of days, I'll take a guess it will get better

what diameter brake master cylinder is yours compared to the GTI version?

Did you just pump bleed it or pressure bleed?

Not sure going to check that tomorrow , they where vacuum bleed then pump bleed again

Could be down to the quality of the pads and rotors you're running.

Would that really effect the stiffness of the pedal ?
