  • Slamming Bora 4Motion?

    Hi guys

I recently acquired a Bora 4Motion. It handles like a dream thanks to the KW 2 coilovers that it came with. Really loving the ride with this suspension!

However, I would like to give the car that 'slammed' look. I plan on doing this with some custom height rear springs. I do not want to ruin the KW 2 rear strut assembly though so I was wondering if anyone could recommend some shocks to me - I require a set that are as short as possible when fully compressed.

Before you all have a go at me, I only plan to run this set up from time to time when I feel like it and will mainly use the whole KW 2 set up for most of my driving

    Thanks!

Have you wound down the V2's fully yet out of curiosity?

One thing to be mindfull of is the front sway bar can rub on the drive shaft if you too low. You may need to look at a replacement one with more clearance.

I think weitecs go the lowest if that is what your asking.

Get some pics up and welcome aboard!

You cant go too low on the back due to the rear suspension design . You'll be chewing out the control arm bushes .

The front on 4wd Bora's already has the upgraded sway bars , its only the fwd Bora / Golf that has the sway bar rubbing issue

        Thanks for the quick replies!

I've wound down the rear KWs all the way at the back but would like to go lower. The fronts still have another 5-6cm of adjustment and tyres are already level with guards.

Where can I get Weitecs from? And how much are they? I want to go REALLY low.

Bug_racer - how low do you think I could get without ruining components?

        Cheers

Give InMotive a call out at Giraween - I'm pretty sure he stocks weitecs as well as KW's.

I'll let seb answer the second part of your question. Mines a FWD - hence why I had to replace my sway bar to go lowwwwwwwwwww.

            Cheers 99gti

I recall the previous owner of my car saying he got the KWs from InMotive. He might have also mentioned the name Seb - can't say for sure though

H&R do a set for the 4motion, not sure how "low" they go. TCCA will be able to help you
Bora has gone ;( Custom sub box and beige floor mats to suit for sale.

                  Hey Lorinser,

Your Bora doesnt happen to have Oettinger RE 17" wheels, and beige/cream leather interior? I called to put in an offer less than a day after you put down a deposit. I was gonna offer more than you paid! If it was you, you got a sweet ride for a sweet price. Each to their own regarding slamming it, but I think it was the perfect height.

sukebe - yes, that's the car!!

I spent a whole Saturday checking out Bora 4Motions in Sydney. Almost gave up hope after seeing the poor condition most of them were in and the rather high asking prices. Then I checked out this one and it was in mint condition! I knew I wanted to get it right away. Don't think there was any mention of the KW Variant 2s on the online ad for it either, so that was a nice bonus. And yeah, definitely a great price

You're right, the car did sit very nicely. I've lowered the front maybe another 1.5cm but left the rear for now. Still looks good.

I'd like to be able to put some 19s on it and lower it more for when my mood suits. But for daily driving the current set up with the 17s is just fine.

Sorry I got in before you but so glad I did. Couldn't be happier with the car! Did you end up finding yourself another Bora or are you still looking?

It wasn't mentioned in the Carsales ad that it had KW V2s, but the ad he put on here did.

I couldn't find another that came close to yours in terms of condition, mods and price, so I ended up getting a mint stock-as-a-rock example (for the same price you paid with the fruit). It will cost me more as I want to do a few mods, but thats OK. If you are ever thinking of selling those wheels, I'll take them. I had my VR6 modded fairly heavily and I want to stay fairly conservative with the Bora. I reckon your wheels are the perfect balance for what I'm looking for.

As for lowering it further, I think the lowest level with the KWs should keep you happy. Any lower and you will have all sorts of problems like sway bars rubbing, rear susp not operating well, potential punctured sump (quite low on the 4motion).

No worries mate, I'll let you know if I ever decide to offload the Oettingers.

I think I'll install the custom rear springs over the next week or so. Will be doing it with the KW shocks in place just for testing purposes to see if there's any rubbing (or grinding!) of parts lol.

Thanks for everyone's input to this thread - I'm sure I'll be in contact with a few of the shops mentioned in the coming weeks.

i hope that you dont have many speed humps around where you drive. I have adjustable bilsteins on my v6 and i have to have them no lower than half way otherwise my fuel tank scrapes even when i take them very slowly, especially when you got a few friends in the back..
