  • Diverter valve spring advice.

    Hi,
I recently bought a Mk4 Golf GTI and am enjoying it.

Firstly some quick feedback. With all the recomendations on here I got Gavin (Optimum code) to tune the car and I was very happy with the results. I then got a local exhaust shop to make and fit a 3" downpipe and the combo of the tune and downpipe now makes it like an all new car. The difference in how the car drives low down in the lower gears is just crazy, I honestly can't believe the difference it makes. When I was researching the tune I would see other people rave about getting the car tuned and I thought it cant really make that much difference, but it really does.

So I have no hesitation recommending Gavin, hes a super nice guy, and if your lucky he'll take you for a drive in his Polo and show you just how much you can get from the 1.8T motors.

Ok, now to my question. I bought a Forge style diverter valve, I think its made by Bosch and rebranded. Its this one -> IPR Diverter Valve 25mm Black Audi VW A3 A4 A5 A6 S3 TT TT RS TT S Golf Tfsi | eBay I've read a lot of threads on what spring to use but I'm still not sure. The springs it comes with it says are rated at 11,13 and 16PSI. I tried the weekest and the middle springs and I can't hear it ever releasing any pressure. I know its not a blow off valve but I expected to be able to hear something just to know its working.
Gavin said that the engine should be making a max of 18-20psi boost so can anyone make any suggestions as to what spring would be best going off the spring values above. Also is there a way to physically test if it is working? Will a boost gauge tell you if its releasing the pressure if I hook one up?

If you read this far I appreciate it and thanks in advance for any help anyone can offer.

    Thanks for the kind words

You'll not here it dump like my Polo with the standard airbox fitted. Usually the middle spring is plenty for a Phase 1 car.

The DV would have to be working, as the turbo would have to spool up again between gear changes. You can check the piston is moving with the DV off the car. Push up the piston and seal the vac connection. The piston should stay up.

      LOL Hi Gavin,

Ill pull it off tomorrow and do what you said to check. I guess because I'm not particularly mechanically minded I just get a bit concerned if its not running right I may damage something. I'll stick with the weakest spring for now and just see how I go.

      Thanks mate.
