  • Golf headlight questions

Couple of questions for both reflector and factory projector fitted cars.
Do your low beams stay on with high beams?
And r32 guys how do you find your high beams?

I'm finding my high beams in the OEM bora projectors to be very narrow, to the point any corners I jump back to low beams.
When I pull the stalk back to 'flash' both sets of lights stay on and is far better

i run my foglights most of the time to avoid narrow beam issues. the spread is great with the inbuilt projector foggys. Low beams normally shouldnt stay on with high beam. my high beams have really good travel. They arent meant to spread wide, its not possible to have both from one globe that is designed to have concentrated light further out.

One negative of the OEM projectors is no more fog.
Yeah but I find these really narrow, like even worse then the stock bora h4 high beams. I'll have to try and get a picture

got room in your front bar for some driving lights? just make sure you set em up right and wire them to the fog switch.

Just be aware that the police are now booking cars with fogs on and no fog around. (Vic)

All came about as some people put higher wattage globes and HIDs into their fog lights thereby making the cut off on top of the beam irrelevant.
          No going back now.

Iv been looking at oem fogs, but the price new is ridiculous and I always seem to miss out on second hand sets (price also pretty bad).
Iv already got the relay setup in my car for them, just need to context to to highbeams too

Upgrade the std h7 high beam globes to hid and wire the low beam through a relay to stay on when you go to high beam. Just use 35watt conversion - I've found anything bigger too slow to reach full brightness and the 35s are such a step up from halogen you will be very happy... Best of both worlds ...

Did think about that, it's not good to have hids turning on and off though is it...? Wears the ballast out?

Have been for years, the golf fog is more of a driving light though and given its in the main cluster is hard to notice at night. They aren't obnoxious in their standard form, so I'm not concerned.

Edit - I do find the throw off the low beam to be too short even when dialed out. Might have to make a manual adjustment. I've got the Philips vision globes.

35w will last longer than 55w.... they run cooler. Depending on the ballasts you have used in your lights as theres a couple of different types
they are rated to last longer than the globes which are 2500hrs plus.... obviously manufacturing tolerances and quality of the base system will determine the ultimate service life .....you should have many years of brightness !!

Snapped these, excuse the phone pics.
                      Low beam:

                      High beam:

This was about 2-3m from the door, driveway is on a mean slope so ignore the height/angle of the lights.
Can anyone compare to their mk4 golf? Ideally a r32
