  • Double Din Head Unit install help!

    Hi there
Is there anyone that can provide a link on a step by step process how to install a double din head unit in to a V5 Bora? Preferably one with pictures if possible.
Is it difficult to install and removed the old one??
    Thanks
Any hints or tips will be greatly accepted

Old headunit you either need keys or 2 pieces of wire bent into a U shape to insert into the holes each side (i used a cut up coat hanger)
Funny/pocket above can be removed with a good tug.
Same as the cup holders if needed.
    Plenty of diy on here

What do you need to know? Main issue is finding a cage that fits the unit. After that it was straight forward. One of my main suggestion is to find an ISO adapter and solder that to the head units wiring harness therefore it makes it a plug an play and very easy to go back to stock.

I was looking in to getting this one for my car: ($269) JVC KW-AV51 6.1inch Touchscreen DVD USB iPod - KWAV51
I was wondering what adapters and the such i would need for it?

My suggestion is one of these.

($14) Male ISO to Bare Ends - APP7201M

The unit will come with its adapter and then you solder the two harnesses together. Then it is plug and play

Okay thanks a lot, so you solder the harness with the head unit to this adapter and then it is just ready to go? I mean would it match up as the head unit now is really old cassette (Eurovox) and i still a bit confused. Any shedding of light would be awesome!

Just be careful with the switch and unswitched power with those as VW is reversed to everyone else.

Just did a double din install the other week too!

The head unit you purchase should come with a standard ISO connector...

Like LeStig said, just pickup a VW to ISO connector: then hook the two together without any soldering needed!

If you are purchasing a double din unit, i found the ebay fitting kits to be pretty good: you can buy a package with the VW ISO connection and fascia kit for about $25 bucks

                    I think your confused there?

ISO is the connection on the car side. The brown and black connectors. He would need as leStig suggested a JVC to ISO connection for that head unit. I've never seen any head units come standard with ISO connections either.

Blaupunkt LA500 .... Fitted it Friday afternoon.... Uses the original VW ISO plugs .... straight into the unit.... NO adapters or extra wiring required and all functions work ..... DVD needs an additional permanent grounded source to operate.... Overrides "safety feature" of no screen display whilst moving ....

So which models can we get that doesn't need any adaptors or extra wiring?

And which one blends in with the lighting colour of the golf mk4 2.0L sport?

                          Thanks,
