Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Vader - Mk4 golf

    hey guys,
I'm semi-new to the mk4 scene, as this is not my first venture into the VW community, last year i had bought myself a 2 door mk1 golf with a mk2 16v (k-jet injection) from Melbourne with the intentions to use it as my first car. Then bringing it home to discover it was really a boat anchor (FULL OF RUST) patched heavily with sound deadening tar then i had decided to save up and look for a rust free shell in good nik, purchasing Gareth's at CVWC and planning to transfer everything over. the shell was great, but unfortunately bad luck got in the way and when transferring the engine over, i discovered the head was severely cracked on every spark plug hole, then ran out of money. So since then i have decided to put a hold on the project and bought myself a mk4 golf.

it's a Mk4 1.8L 20v golf, the car has adjustable coil-overs (don't know what brand), it also has a custom muffler which sounds throaty and its rollin on a set of Audi Rs4 rims 18 x 8's, but i want to push them out wider and fill the guards. i also have plans to purchase a set of mk4 front and rear seats, including door trims as mine are ruined and covered in cigarette burns and starting to fall apart. so far all i've done is lower it again after having to raised for rego

other plans i have are to set it up with strut and sway bars all round, bigger breaks on the front and rear and when i get my full licence set it up with a turbo.

hopefully more updates will come soon

        Thanks guys,
Got it booked in for a window tint tomorrow (it should look stealthier) but we took it up for a drive around the arboretum this afternoon. It looked sick

Then I decided to give it a good clean, and scrubbed off all of the sticky/grip film on the handles, instrument panel and centre arm rest, it came up really nice. I still have to clean the seats up, as they're a bit dirty

Wheel spacers and longer bolts are available but not permitted under national code of practice for vehicle modifications. So new wheels or own risk.

                          Ok, thanks howardv.

Well so far im looking at getting 15mm spacers just for the rear. Is this the right size? And will it fill them out enough?

You could get some washers and trial what works best for you, just don't drive anywhere.

                              Hi guys,
So its been a while since my last update. I haven't done much yet, but ended up buying 20mm spacers for the rear (it sits Phat now), then I lowered it back down to about 80mm from ground to lowest point and blacked out the front badges and the waterbottle cap.

But I will be painting the calipers yellow and blacking out the rear vw badge. Pics will be up soon
